they are proper cars imo, but just not worth as much because of the re-shell.

just to clarify I am only going off the photos shown on the ebay ad, so dont assume its had a shell change, may just be the light or the angles in which the pics were taken.
It would need a viewing to confirm.
edited to say its still a 10k plus car regardless of any changes, and the ad says its still on its original 500 ID which is the important part

I see what your saying but imo if it didnt leave the factory as a 500 it will never be 1 UNLESS for some reason a genuine 500 shell was sourced and was built up using all proper 500 bits.
Who cares anyway its only an old sierra lol

lol,
if you re-shelled it using a 3 door cossie shell then yes,it would be just a 3 door.
but....if you used a brand new shell then it would become an rs500 again as you would restamp the numbers into it..only if its a brand new shell.
ok,its a re-shelled rs500, so it would be worth less than a normal one.

all the road RS500s started life as standard 3drs, therefore a 3dr shell and RS500 one are exactly the same.
The problem is that the 3dr came right at the end of the Mk1 sierra production run so not enough spare shells were made and the stock was quickly used up due to the high theft/damage rate
Ford by now were well into Mk2 sierra production so could not go back in time and build exactly the same shells, therefore when they made a new batch in 1989 they had to use a number of mk2 panels which is why to the trained eye you can see the difference between a 1986 production shell and a 1989 replacement one
So unless a 3dr/RS500 was reshelled very early in its life it will have a 1989 spec replacement shell which can be spotted easily enough without ever looking at the chassis number.
so what you are saying is the every car which gets re-shelled are not proper cars, even thought they have all been done the correct way etc...
they are proper cars imo, but just not worth as much because of the re-shell.
No what i was saying is that if you reshelled a 500 into a genuine 3 door shell would that make it a genuine reshelled 500 or would it make it a 3 door with all the 500 bits
I see what your saying but imo if it didnt leave the factory as a 500 it will never be 1 UNLESS for some reason a genuine 500 shell was sourced and was built up using all proper 500 bits.

but werent the 500 shells different from the normal 3 door sierra shells?
If so then it will never be the same even with the floor numbers the same cause the shell aint the same ths not making it a 500 even if the numbers say it is.

So of the top of my head here are some of them:-
different bulkhead where the fusebox goes in the 1989 ones - so a Mk 1 fuesbox does not sit properly in the 1989 mk2 hole
Courtesy light in the boot is larger mk 2 version in the replacement ones
no hole for the rear aerial
The rear tow eye sits much lower on an extended bracket for the 1989 replacements
The 1986 motorsport versions (no sunroof) were to group N spec so had most of the standard bracketry fitted, where as the 1989 motorsport ones were to the lighter group A spec so were basically panels welded together with loads of brackets, tow eyes etc supplied in a seperate bag to be added as required.
Lots of other little differences but cannot remember them all at the moment, but the above are the key ones

500's do have rear ariels, the difference between a 500 ariel and a 3door ariel is that when you open the boot with the ariel up on a 500 it automatically goes down so it clears the larger spoiler when the boot lid is up!

I think you misread my reply, the list I put up is the difference between production shells and 1989 replacement one, not the difference between 3drs and RS500s
