Default loss of drive symptoms and should i manage to change .....

my clutch in my t5 box myself as a semi handy diy home mechanic?
im told it sounds like my clutch rather than the gearbox as i had pushed the clutch pedal in to change gear when everything went with a faint rattly noise and no gear selection. the gearstick is still firm and selects the gears but there is no drive. i have a hydraulic clutch system fitted not a cable and everything seems in the proper order with plenty clutch fluid and the bracket that goes into the bellhousing is still firm and not loose. does this sound more like the clutch rather than my original pessimistic thoughts of the gearbox ? the clutch has been in this t5 box pre bmw conversion and was originally fitted to my toyota celica cossie conversion that i had done in 2002/2003 so its had 4 years of hard use.
what do you lot think ?

Hmmmm......I'd have to be pessimistic & say gearbox I'm afraid!!!

Sounds like its something to do with the primary shaft although I might be wrong!!!

Just as a matter of interest - does your speedo still work when you apply drive but you obviously dont go anywhere??

Usually when a clutch fails completely unless its completely lacking friction material which will obviously make it slip you usually find it hard to get gears first!!

But yes a gearbox/clutch change I should imagine you can tackle on your own - obviously ramps would be a significant advantage either way!!

i had noticed over the last 2 or 3 days that it was starting to feel a bit notchy selecting all gears but there has been no clutch slip in the lead up to this.
speedo doesnt work as its a sensor on the LSD.
any thoughts on how much a decent t5 box can be had for? the bellhousing isnt nessesary as mine has been modified to use the bmw hydraulic clutch system so it would be easier to reuse the existing one.
the output shaft isnt turning on the gearbox when the engine is revved so it isnt the driveshafts coming loose .

I'd be tempted to whip it out & get it off to someone like Bara for him to look at, inspect & possibly repair - that way you know its been done properly!!!
