Interesting topic this, as I currently have to much gear to fit in my bag 
Gear:
Canon EOS 30d
EF 24-70 2.8 L
EF 70-200 2.8 L
EF 100-400 4.5-5.6 L IS
EF 1.4x extender
Speedlite 430EX
2x HOYA polar filter
2x HOYA UV filter
5x 1GB CF cards
1x extra battery
1x Manfrotto monopod
all to fit in this bag
(well it is nice and light when I don't take all the gear with me)

Nice choice with the Lowepro stu, seems I've come too late for advice...
I have an All Weather Computrekker from lowepro, you forgot you need to carry a laptop, power adapter, etc... with the camera (which I often do when I'm travelling).
Problem I find with a rucksack, is that everything you need isn't easily at hand, a lens swap means taking rucksack off shoulders, opening it, swapping lenses, closing bag, back on shoulders... moment has passed...
Might need a few lens cases to stick on your belt to make it easier to find what you want quickly, but you soon start looking like a soldier fit for combat
I also have a Lowepro sling shot which goes flat into the suitcase, that way, if I am going on a little walk and don't need the whole lot, I take the small bag along.
Finally, a photography topic wouldn't be complete without a few pictures...
The bag and contents (5 lenses, two flashes, one body and vertical grip
Stuff that goes into the bag depending on what I want to do

Excuse the small pic but it's about that size and only just fits my lenses in without the lens hood and i struggle to fit my memory cards and filters in comfortably so a good bag is next on my list.

Nice kit you have. The Slingshot you've showed above comes in three sizes. Named the Slingshot 100/200/ and the new 300. I think the pic you've showed is the Slingshot 300 AW. This is quite a big bag and perfect for a DSLR with telezoom lens already fitted.
Surely not a bad choice.

Hi there, it's not the actual one i have, just a similar looking pic for the slingshot. Mine just about fits the body with the kit lens attached, i can't for instance have the 50mm on and have the other lens in the side pouch, it just doesn't fit!
Plus ith my two new lenses on order i'll need something bigger, i've plenty more lenses i want to fill it with!

Than it would be worthwile to check out the Slingshot 300AW. Depends a bit on the new lenses you buy. One telezoom and a few primes would fit with no probs. Two zooms and primes would be a challenge though.

Check out the Slingshot 200 and/or 300 AW. It's a great solution considering the negative points you've pointed out.

I think both. For long time wandering around i take the monopod along ( ie wandering around tracks looking for a good spot for shooting).
Much lighter then a tripod . If I have my car with me and distances are not that far the tripod comes along ( ie making shots of cars from different views etc).
I use a Manfrotto 055PROB tripod with a Markins ballhead. Not the lightest combination but compared in price vs quality it's top gear. IF money was no problem I would have a Gitzo carbon tripod with the Markins head but the Gitzo a few hundred quid
Monopod also from Manfrotto the 681B with a simple 234 RC head with matching QR plate.

What is the best entry level camera to get ? Always taken an interest in photography and want to take it a bit more seriousley than just my standard digi cam.

Any Canon, Pentax, Sony, Nikon entry level (or even second hand) camera will be more than good enough to get started with.
Best thing to do is make your way to a shop and touch/feel/see what you can get for your budget and go from there

Hey guys some advice please...
looking to get a really nice DLR. Have plenty of digital P&S cams but looking at taking it a step up.
I'm stuck between the newer Canon XTI (400d to you guys)
or the Canon 30d. I know the 30d is last years camera but better made and more of a Prosumer than the XTI. What I do like about the XTI is the higher MP. Of course if I had loads of money I'd get the new 40d!
I'm leaning more towards the 30d though what do you guys think? Stu, how do you like yours?

id go for the 30D the 40D isnt that much better then the 30D.

Didnt realise so many people on here were budding photographers. Ive just bought a 400d body after upgradeing from a 300d, and also have 70-300 zoom, 17-70 macro, BG-3E battery grip, tri-pod and a lowepro bag.
The new camera is fantastic and would recomend it to anyone wanting to get into photography, and also Canon are doing cashback deals at the moment, result
Fisheye and wideangle lenses will be next on the list of things to buy along with a flash gun

Some folks who are more into the canon stuff say that there are not so much improvements over the 30D comparing with the 40D. So if the 40D is out of reach a secondhand 30D or new 30D should be great. Remember that with the body you ain't there yet. Depending on what you are going to use it for, there's the question about what lenses to choose from. Canon has a very wide selection from cheap to medium to the real pro stuff. Prices are accordingly the better the more expensive.

The XTI (400d) is being offered right now in kit form with added zoom lens 70-300 for about $900. The extra lens is catching my eye but I don't want to get it just for the extra lens that I would probably upgrade later on. Maybe I should just save up and get the 40d.
