imo the cheesy old petrol stations that sell red and kerosene usually
have a pump with bio, you could always get the yellow pages out and ring around for a supplier.
i buy it totally legally and get a recipt

and that bollocks about red being crap makes me laugh, my mate has
2 brand new lambo tractors every couple of years, and they run it no probs.
and if you get caught running veggie home brew or red its at least a £500
fine, one lad i know got done at a car auction by customs, and they were
going to seize his car if he didn't pay up there and then
Well i can say 100% its not good on Landrover 90 TD5 my m8 found out the hard way He's a farmer and was using "abit" from time to time and it caused him alot of problems it cut out and was a bitch to start had to clean ALL the fuel lines new filter and get it to start on EASY START

So just becareful its ok on older motors as the fuel filters are'nt as fine as the newer motors
I can safely say that that is bollox...

I know people who have used red for over 10 years, in cars from Rovers, to BMW's, to Mercs, Volvos etc etc and never a problem.
Even a lot of Taxi drivers too, van drivers.
WELL I CAN SAY 100% IT BUGGERED HIS LANDROVER TD5 AND WHEN SPOKE TO A LANDROVER DEALER AND THEY ASKED IF IT HAD USED RED as they have had the TD5s in before

Red diesel WILL NOT damage a diesel engine
Did'nt say it will HARM the engine It kust caused him alot of hassle IE getting it running again ect once it was all flushed out it was fine once he got it to start on easy start
sorry mate, so what does buggered mean then
Failed to start and caused a major headache by the sounds of it. Without wanting to throw fuel on the fire, my mate had to do the same not so long ago when he was using red. Flushed all the system out and it was fine. Whether is was down to the red or just coincedance we will never know i suppose.

Theoretically though, if it is only red dye, how would it cause problems? Is it thicker/thinner or does it have anything else added to it, that modern diesels dont like maybe?

andyt As S1rst says just alot of hassle and if he had to pay someone to fix it it could have cost alot more then the extra fuel

But hey if poeple want to use it fine thats upto them end of the day
Dont forget you can also use Heater fuel (ie household stuff)

Heating oil will cause problems in the long term. It does not contain the same lubricating properties of proper diesel fuel.

Some cars may last longer than others though.

Although I think the new PD style and common rail engines can be very fussy on fuel.

Although red is as good as it gets.

I pay 70p/l for bio diesel.
I either phone the guy up and he comes to me with the fuel or I go to his factory.

I have a 1.4tdci fiesta with a 45l tank
I probably get 420 miles out of my tank. At the moment I put in £10 of regular diesel and top up with bio. This costs me around £30 a week, saving me around £10- £15.
in the summer I use 100% no problems

I changed the filter after a few hundred miles.
The place where I get my bio from usually give a free filter change.

If I get a new diesel I will probably go VW as they warrant their engines to run 100% bio-diesel

RABMC what type of motor do you have, I could give you the phone number for the guy that sells it. He is based in Kilwinning

you can legally now run on veg oil as long as you dont produce more than 2500 litres per year

all you have to do is keep a basic record of what your using/producing
