What about Grove Garage in Romford.

Still local, and VERY VERY good from what I hear.

Bit old skool but then so is the car!

In all seriousness they'd probably do a better job.
If it was true it would explain a lot

I personally found them very helpful. I obviously can't comment on other peoples experiences but from my own personal view they have always been very good.

Dont ask them to fit an external wastegate

Or build an engine......

Or map your car on any "peculiar" management.....

Or any management for that matter!.....

But I hear they can probably fit hub caps to a 1.1 Fiesta bonus ok!

paul has done dyno and live mapping on mine and its been fine TBH. i think the general consensus is that if paul does it, its ok, but if one of his staff does it things can go wrong.

alot of people are happy with their work, but the occasional horror story which any tuner can get, can give a bad reputation.

Fuck them off, call MSD in Blackpool, I know its a long drive but in my experience and most of my mates, they are one of the best mappers in the country for cossies, and totally proffesional and honest ... Never heard a bad word about them either

Thats sounds like a reasonable explanation other than the fact Paul himself touched my car and it ran like shite.

Talking engine advantages (a big up and thanks to paul)

well boys 'm back..... i went to paul at engine advantages back in may... we had my 3 door on the rollers and experienced a few problems(none were pauls fault... it was my car..) it had been in storage for 10 years when i bought it, and had a new engine built for it which was in the car ,but never been run! we got the engine running(to a fashion) but it had issues.. The spec of the engine is.. low comp pocketed pistons. coopers rung head gasket(doh Ł420) t4 8 injector plenim(only running on 4 greys though) 500 cooler pace alloy rad etc etc.. the car was finished off and got running shortly after i got it.. it wouldn't fire up on the ecu which came with the car, so i borrowed one, still no joy.. tried another chip(greys etc..) and it fired up.. but ran like a sack of shit.... this was greatly improved by swapping the 3 bar map sensor for a 2 bar!!!! so now i have a lovely 3 door which runs but had issues. i got another chip from a1 rally sport which enabled the car to run on a 3 bar, but it still wouldnt boost properly etc.... this is where paul entered the equation... i took my car down to him and said i wanted him to sort out the running and give me around 400 bhp (greys and a t4? should be easy...) he sorted out some running issues.. which turned out to be injector caps causing it to splutter.. however, we couln't get big power, as it now developed another problem... at 4 -4.5k it started to missfire and even drop a cylinder doh.. paul spent over 5 hours on my car, swapping bits over trying to eliminate the problem..we tried plugs, leads, coil, ignition amp, blue sensor, brown sensor, another injector rail, another ecu, checked cam timing etc.. the conclusion he came to was it could be lifters(which i wasn't convinced...but after all he knows more than i do)so i paid my bill (VERY REASONABLE>> ONLY CHARGED ME FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS...considering i was there for over 5!!) and left... the car was much smoother and running about 280 bhp(which was not how much i wanted. but we coulnt extract any more due to this miss fire) i had another set of lifters fitted.. and there was no difference.. altough it was a lot quieter! i was running out of suggestions and options...(i was thinking wiring loom etc) we swapped the cams for standard items and this made it slower but the missfire was less.... DISASTER THEN STRUCK!!!!!!! the exhaust cam seized in the head and bent 6 valves.. so head off!! everthing was still fresh,, but we noticed it had standard valve springs(wondered why as it was meant to be such a high spec engine)on closer inspection we realised the head had been machined for double valve springs.. doh. and 2 inlet valves were not seated properly... so 8 exhaust valves.... 2 inlet valves... set of double valve springs... and head gasket later it was up and running she was a honey.. pulling hard in the gears.. cleanly to 6k with no missfire. so... back to paul with something to work with now!! i drove into his workshop with 270 bhp(but pulling nice and smooth with out any missfires) and drove out with 380 bhp and 355lbs torque.... the car is transformed and now a pleasure to drive, paul was in the right ball park with his lifters theory... we didn't think for a sec that it would be something as major as valves and springs!SO ITS A BIG UP TO PAUL FOR SPENDING TIME ON MY CAR AND HELPING ME GET THERE.... I WOULD RECCOMEND HIM TO PEOPLE AS HIS WORK WAS SPOT ON.. HE WAS HELPFULL AND HIS PRICES WERE VERY REASONABLE.. i'm glad that i didn't listen to some peoples comments on here . i can only talk as i find and i was WELL HAPPY. (sorry for the long boring essay.. but i thought it was all rellivent

ive discovered that unless theres a problem with you car hes fine,,,,,, if theres a problem with your car hes SHITE at finding it as hes too busy to actually look in all honesty

meaning i would only take a car there if it didnt need doing in the first place,,,,,, hes labour charges take the piss considering he SOLD a free map for a mondeo 2.0 non turbo car to XRT-si for hes 2.0 t34 xr2 for him to run hes car in,,,,, well he DID change the map,,,,,, he removed the map sensor values so it would run almost as rich as if he took a petrol nossel and fed the engine from a shell pump

MSD,,,,, not just cause they know what there doing and work till there happy or even turn a car away if they aint

the drive back from there is ALWAYS a laugh , ive done it 4 times for 4 different people aswell as myself, you wont get a better time to test you motor compared to driving on the M6 toll road !!!!

i had my old saff done there a couple of years back and was pleased with his work......went in with 286bhp and came out with 344bhp.
He found a few niggles and sorted them very well IMO.

I do agree with ginge tho.....every 2 mins he was buggering off taking phone calls and chatting with other customers and i felt my car didnt have his full attention.

Although i was happy with his work, after reading so much about him i dont think i will be returning again .....need a map soon too as am going for more power so want it done right.

changing sensors etc just for the sake of it shows that he doesn't have the correct tools for proper diagnosis of faults. IAW monitor software would have told him that those things did not need changing

Looks like I wasn't the only one to think that the time taken diagnosing could have been much faster with the correct gear, got there in the end though.
