I heard people with motorbikes who run with their plates slightly wrong for that reason (and to run from the pigs) and if they DO get pulled they jus say they had no idea and the numberplate maker made a mistake...

'IF' i was going to do it i would pick some foor fucker who was arround the same age as me.. had the same colour and make of car and use his exact details!
by using his plate, name address, D.O.B you are basically 'him' in a random stop check the pigs certainly wouldnt know any diference! even if they did an insurance check!

i used to drive my frst on my 1.1 fiesta plates lol i owned two red fiestas both identical (both had teh kit wheels etc) but 1 had the frst name and engine to insure it i had to be 19+ atleast, to insure the 1.1 with a declared engine conversion to 1.6 engine was £1100 at 18
so yes slightly illegal but only because i couldnt be bothered to take the engine out and put it in the other one.
my old boss had one of those nissan kingkab truck things neway, he got pulled over and the copper spotted that one of the numbers on the rear plate was different to that on the front plate (wrong order) he didnt know this as he bought the vehicle brand new and it was a genuine mistake, he got a ticket thing that said he had to have the plate changed to the registered numbers etc and get an mot station to stamp and sign to say all was well now.
so no penalty just a new plate and a tenner to the mot fella

Just remembered... my g/f's brother got a fine in the post showing his car in leeds on some speed camera. Turned out someone had copied his plates on a silver sapphire (not cossie) which was exactly what he had too!
He had to send off photos of his car to prove it was slightly different from the one on the camera pic (different wheel discs, no boot spoiler etc)

Only time ive ever been done is with black plates, not sure about other plates.
Im pretty sure ive been told that people have got away with swapping numbers round and then saying they are dyslexic or that the guy in the shop must have been!!!

as far as i know its only a fineable offence...£30 perhaps? after you got stopped and told to change them tho it'd be really takin the piss to do it again and you'd get nailed if pulled again especially by same copper.
i say take a chance and c how long ya get away with it

When I was 17 I had a 5 Turbo , bought some fancy show plates for it a week later
A week after that I got stopped for a routine check
I hadnt realised the 3 letters were back to front
Was arrested there and then car was impounded , coppers went round to my house , luckily I had the receipt for the car showing its TRUE reg along with the reciept for the show plates
4 hours later I was a free man

Some one i know used to do boot legging he would just have his plates made up with one digit wrong on the front or back can't remember which So he could not get clocked to musc going through customs! You can say it must have been an error and you never noticed So i would do that on the back if you are going to do it just 1 letter/ number wrong

Sorry to piss on your bonfire chaps, but you now need the V5 and ID to buy plates
Guess the info goes on a database too, so I reckon you'd get done eventually

Neil.

Can buy them from many many places as "show" plates and no need to show ID or owt then...

Official line on plate offences- 1) missing/incorrectly spaced/ illegible plates = £30 fine and a 7 day V.R.N (vehicle rectification noitce) and after the second occurance the D.V.L.A can withdraw the reg mark and issue a Q plate to that vehicle
2) false plates= unlimited fine and up to two years in prison
so be very very careful. Prob best just letting your plates get filthy
