Default 2wd T5, Noisy Gearbox.

Although previously rebuild the box in my escort has always whined in all gears, inc 4th!
Apart from that it still changes fine n doesn’t jump out etc.
Could someone tell me what’s the most likely cause of the whine?
Cheers

my old box whined for about 2 years, still changed gear mint so i kept driving with it like that.
one day i left work, it jumped out of gear and didnt whine anymore...it was rattling and banging instead

when i stripped it down the input shaft and layshaft were smashed to pieces so i fitted another box.

think that was down to knackered bearings.

yep most defo front motionshaft bearing the reason why it's whining is because the gears are not fully engaged because of the worn bearings

Marco,

can you get T5 spares?
if so, what would a lay shaft and input shaft cost me?

Seen plenty on ebay.com in the states but they seem to be for mustangs and have different number of spline on the input shaft for the clutch.

Thanks

to be honest once these T5 start whining they are on the last legs

i have had afew go on me

if i ever hear the slightest bit of whining i take it out and get it redone asap because i know it will fooking beak.

when the bearing the front motion shaft bearing colapas it takes 4th gear clean out with it , the the rest of the box then falls apart

same goes for the Diffs once they start whining they wont last long driven hard
