Default Petrol in a Diesel!!??

Just had the call ive been expecting for a month now. Shes put unleaded in the diesel Its a 1.4 pegueot 206, shes put £2.90 of unleaded in then £10 of diesel on top after realising what shed done. Whats the score, the engine gonna exit stage left or will it jsut run shit for a while and get through it? 3 years ive been driving diesels and petrol vehicles and never even come close to doing that

That's not much. Fill it all the way up to dilute it and it'll be fine.

Didnt they use to dilute diesel with petrol years ago to stop it freezing when there was cold spells. We didn our works van with petrol and and we just topped it up with diesel. Run like a pig for a bit but was fine after a while

Default diesel in petrol

O dear, Firstly what litre size is the tank, £2.90 of petrol is not a great deal, years ago was involved with diesel engines and in some circumstances a percentage of petrol can be added to diesel fuel, the figure i think is 5% but not sure now. So depending on tank size, what is the percentage. If less then just fill it up.

My sisters ex put a tenner of petrol into her diesel 306 before he noticed then realised when it conked out I got them to brim the tank and drive it until it ran out then I changed the fuel filter and it was fine. £2.90 isn't going to do much damage as long as you dilute it

they did a test on topgear or the likes a while back with diesel in a petrol engine and petrol in a diesel engin and both engines worked ok,i thnk the petrol engine spluttered a little more than diesel engine did, but they both worked.

Just brim it with diesel and it will be fine m8.

fill it with diesel and it will be mint, the main problem with filling a diesel car with petrol is that, petrol does not have as good lubricational properties, but £2.90 worth is gona make no differance

Yeah as above just fill up with diesel.

But I heard this about putting petrol in a diesel. Because of the hig compressio ratio already in diesels and because petrol is more combustible, it is dangerous because detonation or pinking may occur if ran totally on petrol. I was told this by a mechanic and I can see the logic in it so why have some people said that their engines have just conked out or ran OK? Just curious

i stuck £20 of petrol in my old diesel van, drove for nearly half a junction on the m25 before it spluttered, then got to next junction and near enough back again before traffic patrol pulled me over due to it smoking, and typically it died got tank drainded and refilled and was fine

Not sure if the petrol and diesel mix properly or if they stay separated like oil and water, but £2.90 isn't even half a gallon so I'd just brim the tank and keep refilling at the half-full mark for the next few tankfuls.

It isn't an issue at all in a "traditional" diesel engine, but the lack of lubrication in petrol does for the new high pressure systems.

my mates dad was looking for his new company car back in 2001,
he went straight to SAAB,and took the top spec cabby for a weeks trial
went to the garage (on the red)and then filled to the brim with petty,

only to realise after he had fooked the engine up,that it was a diesel

suffice to say,he never had the saab in the end and that was the end of that brand new 30k saab

just brim it and all should be well, we used to put a gallon of petrol in bus/hgv tanks to help them pass emissions test's if they were running a little dirty.

that is true but it is also a VERY commonly accepted synonym for diesel fuel in the uk
