What is an ERV?

ERV CLOSED
With the Valve closed your full exhaust system is used as normal. Nice and quiet and no attention from the police. You get the stock performance of the car.

ERV OPEN
You are now running a wide open race exhaust. Its got zero restriction that your Engine / Turbo will love.

Who Can use an ERV ?
Any 4 stroke Petrol & Diesel Engine!!! Turbo or None Turbo!!!

Is it Easy to install ?
YES!!! A simple wiring setup thats water proof. And a Y pipe that can be clamped or welded onto your exhaust system. You or your Garage should find this an easy install

But my system needs back pressure?
The longest question to answer - Simple Answer is YES & NO !!!

If you have a Turbo Charged Engine the best exhaust is no exhaust!!! Turbo engines do not require back pressure. This is why you see many a Jap turbo car fitted with a very large section (Expensive) exhaust. To read up on this a good book to get is ‘Maximum Boost’ by Corky Bell.

For none turbo Cars, Trucks & Bikes you need to retain the tuned section of your exhaust. This includes the Manifold and down pipes and the Collector and a short section of pipe after this. Its this section alone that increases the draw of gases from the engine (Its all to do with high and low pressure pulses.) And with a set of long equal length tubular headers you can make more power & Torque than a standard cast manifold. With out this part of the exhaust your car will loose power. After the Collector you have the silencing system. This part gives ZERO performance gains. After market silencers claiming to make more power are simply less restrictive than stock but they are still restrictive in them selves.

Once fitted you should check your Air Fuel Ratio. The increased Exhaust flow can require the need to increase air flow pre combustion and also fuel delivery requirements.

Is this a new fangled idea / gimmick ?
NO, far from it. Since the late 1940’s the American hotrod scene has used what is known as a Cutout. If you want to research more in to the application and use of our ERV try doing a google.com search for Electric Cut Out. You will find many a car forum from Chevy V8 owners to WRX and Honda Civic owners all using the systems. We are happy to report that we believe ours is one of the best on the market. Made and designed be Petrol heads for petrol heads.

So if I have one of these ERV setups, Do I still need to invest in a large bore exhaust system?
Well an Honest answer is NO, a 2.5” System is big enough for most. If your stock system is in good condition then there is no real need to change it.

I've seen a couple fitted, it was fitted between the downpipe and the system, with flanges welded on, the bypass pipe went straight to atmo, (no second Pipe)

I understand, (but may be wrong) BMW have a similar system on some of there cars. To be honest I was chatting about this in passing and it was a comment in a conversation, so I cant remember which car, but the owner had an M3 and was pretty clued up on the BMW marque.
