the basics are as follows

about 600 or so years ago, islam was what they all wanted you to be as a religion or you were put to death
this was fine while thy were in the muslim iddle east places, but then they started to come across into india
the "sikhs" as we wern't at the time, were in teh way of the muslims getting into the main part of india (look at a map and you'll see why)
so that's where the problems started
we basicly said "fuck you cunts, we'd rather die than turn muslim" and had a bit of a ruck that lasted the best part of the next 200 years
so now when you get "baptised" into being a fully fledged sowrd carrying sikh you wear your turban/kara/kanga but you also wear a kirpan (sword, although now it is purely for decorative purposes as it's only about 6 inches long and a bit of folded metal but a funny story later on) and the kuch (boxer shorts to you and me) at all times so that, in case there was ever the need to go to battle in the middle of the night, you were clothed and armed ready at a moments notice

only a couple of months ago some "gangsta" decided it was wise to go up to an elderly sikh fella and point a knife at him and ask him for his wallet
in ture crocodile dundee fashion, singh then pulled out his proper sword as he had it on his as he was coming out of the gurdwara and said "you call that a knife?"
and them some other guiani's came out and held the would be mugger until the police turned up

as someone mentioned, we don't start troubles, but by heck do we finish them if they come our way

in one way i'm not proud of this "terrorism" if you want to call it that, but if you wrong us as a peaople, you need to be sorted out, and killing hundreds of people is the wrong sort of wrongness to be doing when you've killed more people than your total of bulliets fired from your gattling gun

as for the muslim thing with them blowing themseves up and shit,benazir bhuto says she's going to make pakistan a democracy and most people don't want that, and if your beliefs are stong enough that you will blow yourself to smithereens for your cause, then there is not a lot you will do to change these peoples views, especially if they are living in a mountian somewhere with no access to sky news

a short story for you:

there is a guy at work who we call Bless because he's into all his holiness and bible stuff anf quote scriptures and the like
then we've got another guy who is into what the bible says about god creating the world in 7 days etc
it's great to see them both arguing abotu who is holier than the othe one and then they ask me and i reply with "you can believe whatever you like, and i won't stop yu, but please don't try and pressurise me into believing what you want me to believe in, because then i'll start asking you about why the earth is scientificly older than when adam and eve decided to get it on"

and the story goes a little something like this

lets not beat about the bush here, the basics are that the sikhs started as a bunch of farmers who fought back against the muslims who were invading their lands and forcing them to embrace allah and islam or be put to death by the sword
lots of things have changed over the centuries but just because things change it doesn't mean that history should forget the reasoning behind stuff
think sparticus and you have a general jist of the peole overthrowing the oppresor type but it goes a lot deeper than that

we are taught to be nice and kind to everyone, but if people fuck with us, everyone grabs a sword and goes looking for evil doer's to chop down, well, they did back in the day
we aren't "perfect" but we don't preach hatred for anyone, we preach peace and harmony and welcome everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs
all we ask in return is that you not be under the influence of liqour or narcotics when you enter our places of worship
that's not a lot to ask is it

i'm sure we could go on and on about who's the best and who's the rightest and who's the mightiest and who's the biggest and all that other bollocks, but if you belive in what you belive, then that's fine, just don't try to make me believe what you believe bceause it's not going to happen
