how many miles has it done

or

how long has it been on for?

general rule is 70k miles of 5 years on a zetec

also, if its cracked, frayed, worn etc it might be a good idea to change lol

I've got the Autodata cambelt book here with the recommended Cam Belt intervals.

The Zetecs vary, some are 100,000 miles or 10 years, some are 80,000 or 5 years.

Get the engine code and I'll tell you what the information here says.

Check it anyway as said above AND change it. For the sake of a few quid it's not worth fucking about with.

dont go to ford, but get it done

had the belt done on the wifes puma last year, belt kit and tensioners (DEFFO GET THE TENSIONERS AS THEY PLASTIC AND CRACK) was £100, cost £170 all in

cheaper than a new engine

If its done 85k now and you bought it two years ago I doubt very much its had a cambelt, been a few years since sold my cabrio so can't remember how easy it is to take the cover off and check, I'd say get it done, get a labour quote from an independant garage and a cambelt kit from your local Motor Parts Direct

Was there not a receipt to say it had been replaced on time in a service before you bought it?

I've heard that if it snapped before the quoted 70k miles, they have to cover all costs.

you dont wanta ca,belt to snap ona zetec

i ben t all 16vs due to a fanbelt snapping and wrapping round the bottom pulley

my own fault as i never ran a guard due to being in a mk4

either way its going to bend all 16vs if it does go and poss scrap the head like it did on mine

xr4x4rs you remember posting on my thread about my dads poorly Escort estate? well it went in today and looks like the water pump failed, water got into places that it shouldnt be, the engine got seriously overheated..................AND the head blew aswell, so it needs a new engine
First car my dads ever owned in 30 years thats needed a new engine

Yeah i know, he doesn't have much luck with cars

The guy at Ford said a new zetec engine new would cost a fair bit but a recon wouldnt be too much, see what he says but we know someone else who might be able to get one at a sweeter price
