Tested water, 'seemed' ok... But im gonna do it again tomorrow with the sniff test kit

no, once bleed.

if the water rises after you bleed it, it would indicate a air lock and building up pressure from somewhere

just some advice i had recently

like i said mine wass cracked from cylinder bore to waterway jacket in block which in turn pressurized system
all prior checks ie pressure test etc came back ok as were done cold and crack in block was still sealed as metal expands when warm hence crack opened up
you could have similar but crack to oilway instead hence oil warming up rapido
hope for your sake its not
good luck

Radders you're a jinx, My Gtir has started getting hot very quickly now. Oil temps are rising fairly quickly, but rad is stone cold. Top hose is hot bottom hose is cold, so I think it's my thermostat. (well hope so, because it's easier than the water pump to do)

What''s your radiator doing? hot or cold?

is it the right water pump thats been fitted??

it sounds really daft but like with zetecs if you put a 2.0 from a mondeo into an escort you need to use an 1800 waterpump as the fins go the wrong way on the 2.0 ones.

could it be a problem like this where the wrong pump has been used?

my guess with the burning oil is that the engine is getting that hot the oil is getting PISS thin and maybe getting past the stem seals?? apart from that wouldent like to hazard another guess. jsut to throw a new stat in as well, get a cool running one.

Just been out to test the new radiator... everything seems to be good, but as I was just coming to home steam was coming out the vent, pulled over, popped bonnet and there was water pissing from the radiator, so it looks like they sold me a duff one

I did have my thoughts about this yesterday, as when the car was running at idle, this happened... (wasn't driven yesterday!)

rang 24/7 parts, had a word and there sending another out tomorrow... guy tried to argue it with me though

I've re-bled the system, fitted this supposed " good condition " radiator, took just took it for a spin, first time in 2 days..

temps seem to have been fine, wasn't driving like a madman... just went out for 15/20 mins to see if it went up like it did the other day, but it didn't and the temp was fine... it wasn't untill the rad started to piss out water that the temp went above half

So, I think I've solved the heat issue..

BUT now have a fucked rad

Yesterday when I bled the system.. I noticed the water on top of the radiator, But I'd thought I may have spilt water onto it, but looking..I can't have.. theres no way you can! as it sits under the slam panel, and has as filler neck

hmm, oil temp would be nowhere near half way on the gauge under normal driving, even thrashing it. You sure the gauge/sender is right? If you were tickling it around I'd expect the gauge to hardly move, not even a quarter of the way up.

are you sure that the engine overheating didn't cause the red to swell?
if the pressures are getting that much what is next?

I'd expect oil temps of 100(half way on the gauge) when cruising at about 5000rpm or so on my car. I'd expect maybe 85max when normal driving on a warm day.
Just been for a test drive without a thermostat and never saw even 80. (so that confirms my stat was knackered)

Was that supposed to be a standard rad, they do have a habit of leaking as they're partly made from plastic.

Mate you're better off getting a NEW OE rad if you cant afford an ally one they are quite cheep.

I had to do mine, they have crimped on end tanks which is where they can leak from (like yours) so you're better off with a new one.

Surely the rad cap controls the pressure in the system? (1bar I think in our case)
