I wouldn't rule out the rings mate. I had a similar problem with rings letting go but compression was still good.

what about the turbo oil return? Check thats clear.... If its not, the oil could pool in the bearing housing, cook it, force it past the seals etc .... Might be worth checking the turbo feed hose as well for the same reasons

if it was my car, i'd be asking why OIL would get that hot that fast????

water is heated up by engine (i.e. HG), and heats up quite quick, but oil??

what can cause oil to heat up so fast???

even on track i cant get me oil to heat up that fast

They have a factory water cooled oil cooler, so if the water is getting hot, it's going to heat the oil up too.

Alot of Gtir temp gauges sit at 1/2 and never move, so they may not be that accurate.

Steve, This is the first time that the oil has gone sky high.. So im still putting it down to water temps...

Got a guide here http://www.gtirworkshopmanual.com/default.aspx?v=403 so will do that tomorrow and have everything crossed and touch as much wood as possible

All the earths seem fine too, had a look around and cant see any that are loose or anything

ended up me cracking two out of 4 cylinder bores
take the head off and look very carefully
