Default Re. Specialised Engines at Grays, Essex

Anyone ever used them? Are they any good as a mate of mine is looking at going there for one of their engines. Just wondered if anyone had any dealings with them..?

Many Thanks, Ed.

I had a engine done by them that I bought off a good mate, done about 1000 miles between the 2 of us, at low boost. Sold it to another mate who dismantled it and found the bottom end had not been put together at all right, there was also silocone sealer everywhere. Proper bodge job.

Have had another mate who has had no probs at all with them, but i wouldnt use them myself.

I am genuinley supprised at the above... Prob cos i'm not on here loads, anyway, i had a 1905 low comp cvh turbo bottom end off them about 5 /6 years ago, built to my spec, l & b, arp bolts etc, he did me a reasonable trade price, and that engine did 247 bhp on jam-sports rollers at 15psi of boost.

More importantly, it covered nearly 10,000 miles, 80% on trackdays, all over the uk, and it never ever missed a beat. I just ran it in carefully befor it was set up, and changed the oil / filter after every track day.

I'd use them again, without hessitation, but everyones got their own opinions!

He had problams with the last person he used and don`t wanna go through the same again...

I had an engine built by them - supposedly it was just a std XR3i lump - complete bag of shite, blew three back main oil seals during the run in period alone (when I weren't booting it or going over 3k rpm) and got through 3 gallons of oil in one month..... SE refused to accept liability for it, blaming it on many things such as my metering unit, which I spent out on another but made no difference

Took it to Euro Engines up the road from them (right next to Lakeside), they stripped it and found the bores had been cut on size (125thou) rather than to 120thou and then cross hatch honed to 125. They weren't honed at all, were rough and mishapen and as a rseult they had cut the fuck out of the picton rings, allowing petrol into the oil, borewashing it to fuck, and crank case pressure was through the roof

so no, I would NEVER go back ot SE - tho I went back to Euro Engines for various different things and every time they were spot on for me and I got great service at really good prices

My brother and I are in the process of rebuilding one of their rebuilt engines at the moment. If this one's anything to go by I'd be steering very clear

Bought an engine off them last year.
Fitted it and when running oil was pissing out everywhere!

When we got intouch with them there aftersales was shocking.

So decided to rip the engine appart and the crank oil seal and cam oil seal
Where hanging out!

I'd never use them again.

This is easy mate.

If you have a old skool motor like a mk1/2 escort with a crossflow engine or a pinto they are good.

If your talking about big power turbos, then id say no imo.

they did a 2.8 v6 for me and it was great, but when i had my cossy i used mark of M.A.d

I used them for all my machining work on my engine (2.9 v6) and bought all the parts from them. I then put the lot together myself. I found them ok but only used Ian the owner....the "chubby turd" RSrussell referred to earlier!!

No probs with quality though, but it did work out expensive!

Same happened to me, done 300miles on a new engine and the pistons started slapping, the nob there said it was my fault for not running it in properly and having the wrong rad in the car................load of bullshit and id never ever ever go there again

R5FORD is bang on, for every good job and happy customer I've heard a bad report and unhappy customer.

I've had to rebuild one of their engines, and there machining work is..... lets just say......... slap dash with no finish.

i heard about a guy who had his engine done and they didn't put a pin into the oil pump drive
resluting in no oil pressure
but they did fix it for him

but no, there are too many people saying street clear of them so i wouldn't entertain the risk

I had my bottom end balanced there, on rebuild i got it checked by someone else more local to make sure everything was still ok...

He showed me on his machine that all they did was to drill some extra holes here and there and make it worse than standard balance!

I won't ever use them again
