well tey are thinking of allowing 16 y/o to drive those 500cc granny mobiles on the road... so it wouldnt surprise me if they did both of these as a sorta compramise! its been on the cards for a long time! and the recent law change on fags may have helped the cause!

21 is way to old to be learning to drive, thats a daft idea. can you remember being 18-21 you need to be mobile else you will miss out on alot of things.

but yes its going to 18 as fair as i know, hopefully this will make insurance drop to.... but i doubt it

basically its not how old you are its how hars it is to pass the test , make it a 2 hour exam, include motorways , and then a 3 hour practical exam, 1 question wrong and you fail , make it harder and make people respect , what a driving licence is really worth

Good idea IMO, so they use peds for a year, teaches them to look out for bikers.
There should be a limit on power/weight ratio, for two/three years.
I am amazed all the gov want to do is make it harder for new drivers, without tackling another real problem of the old gits, some of whom never took any test, but have a full license, and others that do not declare medical conditions that affect thier driving.
Night driving should be included, but so should retest every 5 years for everyone IMO.
The raising of the age limit is a farce,(but good idea) it is more to do with congestion, so a 16 or 17 year old can't drive buy fags but can get killed defending this country in Iraq, and they really wonder why there is so little respect for the govenerment and it's soldiers(police).

I think they base the test similar to the standard response course that that the Police use, obviously without the blues training.

The thing is when you pass your test around a city all you ever practice on is side streets and the odd dual carriagway. I think there needs to be more open country roads and motorways where you can show people the benefit of raised vision and not looking at the car directly in front of you. You would be able to read and predict traffic situations far easier which would cut down a vast number of accidents.

The exam should be based on the roadcraft manual which explains about vehicle characteristics, the effects of steering and a whole host of other things.

The bit i found the most useful was observation links... ie driving down some country lanes heading downhill whilst looking at the kerb line looking for trickles of water and then expecting a large puddle at the bottom laying in the middle of the road.. or looking out for mud on the road or horse shite expecting farm traffic or bloody horses.

The standard driving test i did 18 years ago is absolutely shite compared to police ones.

well thats my oppinion anyway.... oh yeah and raise age to 18 and limit to 1400cc

neil

raising the limit to 18 is a load of shite. All people will do will buy 125 peds (most of the 125 runners near me are bored to a 172 aswell) and they will kill themselves on them. They are much safer in a car

Are you sure you are a copper??? That is FAR too much of a sensible suggestion ... If the government were SERIOUS about cutting accidents and K/SI figures, then they would adopt a proper sylabus for new drivers.... But it won't happen as they will loose millions in fines

No need to raise the driving age at all, just teach people how to drive properly in the first place. And no power limits, I had a 280BHP RWD cossie when I was 19, and never hurt anyone or caused any problems, it's just knowing when and where its safe to use

Superb idea

I also think they should limit the power of the car you're allowed until you have 2 years driving experience.

I haven't heard anything official about them raising the age.

There's been the rumour of the age going to 18 since I learned to drive 12 years ago!

It would be a lot safer if the driving age was 18. I look forward to this taking effect.

limiting to 1.4 would only work with a power limit.

R5 GTT as your first car anyone? LOL

or a Golf 1.4 TSI, or Mazda RX7 Turbo LOL

they'd have to change the driving laws to allow drivers with a provisional license to go on motorways.

forcing people to do an advanced driving course would be a way around it.

raising the age would be a good idea... but you would still get the first 3/4 years having the most accidents... you would more or less move the problem... unfotunately you cant get expierience without driving... restricting the power of your car is an even better idea!!!

And what pearl of wisdom do you base this on? ..... Bad drivers are bad drivers, end of. Proper driver training and a much more relavent test would be a FAR better way to make the roads safer...... Jesus crist there are some dumb fucks around

I know, lets stop anyone over 40 driving as well, they are a menace
