Default Migranes

Anyone else suffer?

I've had a couple before, and had one today.

Thing is tho, my right eye went almost completely blind about half an hour before the headache came on

Wasn't sick this time, but was at work lying on the sofa with the lights off and couldnt move. Eventually did the 20 mile drive home from work, and i'm feeling a lot better now

Never experienced partial temporary blindness before though, and it isnt nice

Yes..... I get migraines and I do suffer loss of sight in one eye temporarily sometimes. At other times, I also get flashing lights and sometimes everything goes out of focus accompanied by the 'aura'. This is all before the blinding headache starts.

Funny enough I woke up in the middle of the night with one starting, but took one of the tabs [NARAMIG] the Doc prescribes for me and luckily by the time I got up this morning, it'd gone.

My other halfs been suffering with them for about 4 years, loses sight in her left eyes for up to a day She's been for scans and all kinds, but cant find any real triggers. It's hereditary apparently.
If anyone here's got any tips for making them a bit better, i'm sure she'd be eternally grateful to you all!

I suffer from them too

Whe i get a really bad on , i loose depth perception , i cant grip things , i go to pick things up and miss them

then it feels like my tongue has swollen in my mouth

i get pins and needles down my left side

then the whole left side goes numb ,

then i start throwing up , with the world biggest head ache , i wont stop being sick until there is nothing left , after yellow stomach acid i normall get this foam stuff , dunno what that is ,

then ill sleep for about 18 hours and get up fine

the first time my ex misses saw it she proper freaked out no matter how much i said id be fine , ive suffered since about 8-9 im 24 now and i havent had one in a little while , sometimes i think mines down to an alergic reaction to somethin , or chemical inbalence.

Sometime though the worst is the piss taking , "oh so you had a bit of a headach then" "well no actaully i felt like i was dying"

Ive never lost sight completly as said above though and ive got some "Imigran 50" tablets from the docs which dont really help so ill have to get some better ones

Doesn't she take any medication for them when they start up, like Naramig or Imigran?

Kinnell I expect it's because both Naramig and Imigran are expensive, I think they cost something like Ł14 per tablet.

I get what they call 'cluster migraines', I'll get a migraine everyday for about a week then nothing for maybe 3-4 months, then the cycle will start again. Sometimes though, the tabs don't work and then I'm out of it for about 3 or 4 days, luckily this has only happened 2 or 3 times in 12 years.

Tell your other half to insist to her doctor she wants proper migraine tablets, paracetamol are useless for migraines.

I found that when I took Imigran I was away with the fairies for a couple of hours, but with Naramig there's no side effects whatsoever and they usually work for me within 30 mins or so.

I have been a sufferer for a long time now and I once collapsed and stopped breathing. It's known as classic migraine when you get the flashing stars. Some get them over one eye and some are even more unlucky and get them over two. I get them to the left of my left eye.

New research has found that Classic Migraine is black and white stars and Color stars is a form of epilepsy. The flashing stars is a warning before you have a fit. The causes of mine are as followed:

Iregular sleeping pattern.

Bright sun meaning I wear sun glasses in the sun at all times.

Accesive alcahol.

I used to have them around 5 times a month and they could last up to 3 days and it was not pleasent. I know take a tablet once of a morning and once of a night and I haven't had a single one since. On rare occasions I still get the flashing stars but not pain what so ever. And my speciliast is about to put me up to two tablets a night which should also remove the flashing stars aswel.

For over three years my doctor told me it was just a migraine until one day my parents demanded I seen a specialist and he has tried all sorts of things like:

'Spray this up your nose when you get the flashing stars'

'Put a cold flannel on your head'

All things that didn't work but these tablets worked and I will be on them for a few years. You can grow out of them which I'm hoping to do.

In the two years I have been on tegretol I have had one migraine.

Benni.

I get some pretty bad migraines, but I don't take prescriptions. I find most of mine come from stress, so I try to take a few minutes out and close my eyes to relax. After that I usually pop a couple of Excedrin Migraine tablets and I'm good to go.

Painkillers don't work for proper migraines as they can't narrow the blood vessels in the brain. It's the widening of the blood vessels that causes the pain.

From the Naramig Info...

NARAMIG
How does it work?

Naratriptan belongs to a group of medicines known as serotonin (or 5HT) agonists. It is used in the treatment of migraines.

Although the cause of migraine attacks is not fully understood, it is thought that the widening of blood vessels in the brain causes the pain associated with migraine attacks.
It is also believed that a chemical called serotonin (5HT) is released in the brain at the beginning of an attack. Serotonin causes the release of other chemicals, which cause blood vessels in the brain to widen.

Serotonin itself causes blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Naratriptan binds to serotonin receptors in the brain, which causes the blood vessels to narrow. By decreasing the width of blood vessels in the brain naratriptan relieves the pain of migraine headaches.

My Specialist told me any form of pain killer will not work as it is a chemical inbalance in the brain and you need a proper tablet to even it out. My GP had me on Paracetemol for ages and they did nothing.

Redkop You should enquire about the tablets I am on. Instead of removing the painful migraine it stops it coming in the first place. The downside is remembering to take one of a morning and night.

I don't get as many as you did Benni, so I can cope with getting them every 3 or 4 months and manage on the Naramig, plus at the moment if I take anymore tablets.... I'll rattle

I also used to get a lot of normal headaches (1 to 2 a week) percy, go and get your eyes tested.

My glasses were very slighty too weak, so i have got new ones. I can't even tell the difference between the old and the new pairs in strength, but i havent had a normal headache since!

All the migraines I have only affect one side of my head, mainly the left. If you're getting headaches that affect right across your head, the first thing I'd suggest is get your eyes tested. Eye strain can be the main cause of headaches along with stress.

Maxalt is in the same group of medicines as Naramig ie: known as serotonin (or 5HT) agonists.

i am going through some major stress at the moment which is bringing on these head aches. they go right across the top/front of the head, i can feel it more on the right side at the moment, and pushing on the backs of my eyes.

Stop all drinks with caffeine in, get decaf tea/coffee, no coke or Pepsi.

It's also recommended that you don't eat cheese or chocolate, some people advocate don't eat anything which contains dairy products at all.

Only you can really deal with your stress, there's plenty ways of doing it if you do a search on Google. Maybe you need to go and see your GP about your stress.....

Never used to suffer from headaches (cept drink related), but a few years ago we had a new radio system foisted on us at work. Had an in depth medical prior to being issued with radio, then had a second medical 12 months later. During this I period I started to get headaches which have gotten progressively worse. Now I have complete head melts at least once a fortnight! Knocks me flat until I need to be sick.

If I am off work then I am fine and dandy.

Told the nurse this during the second medical just in case something happens!

I truly believe the new radio is the reason for headaches, but am unable to do anything about it.
