Default 40MM DROP HELP

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO FIT A SUSPENSION KIT WRONGLY. I'VE HAD A 40MM KIT PUT ON MY 1989 ESCORT RS TURBO BUT THE FRONT END SEEMS TO HAVE DROPPED CONSIDERABLEY MORE THAN 40MM, MORE LIKE 80MM!! THE PART NUMBERS APPEAR TO BE CORRECT.

CHEERS!

when did you put the new springs on? sometimes it takes a while for them to settle

cant see the springs being over compresed before settling. Normally it would sit higher until it settles, no?

benreader did you do the springs your self?

is it that the front looks far lower than the rear by comparison?

probably does just need to settle and more so on the rear, somebody will know for sure mate.

what suspension kit is it?

as i made a mistake on the gmax kits on my old cabby as it said to remove the bump stops on the shocks

omg what a disaster that was

but the front will always sit lower than the back

no i paid a garge to fit them for me, i cant see there being a possible way to actually do it wrong, they are the right way up etc... the rear is lowered by the correct amount but the front is double what it should have been, its not just that it looks lower it is lower. my mate also has an rs on a 40mm drop with standard wheels and the difference is huge!

if you remove the bump stops then its takes the height of the bump stop off aswell so around 40mm

plus the shocks will crash and bang as there is no bump stop so the shock will always be bottoming out

you need the bump stops on , no need to cut them or anything, just get some bumpstops and job done

am i right in thinking the only thing that determines the ride height is the spring itself? the spring is labelled as a 40mm, im sure it must have been made/cut incorrectly at the manufacture stage?

the spring is 40mm lower than the standard springs so if you got rid of bump stops than im sure it will change the overall lower height of 40mm.

removing the bump stops will not affect ride height. All they will do is stop the shock bottom out when the spring is fully compressed, when hitting a pot hole / harsh cornering etc.

Are you sure you have the right springs for your car? They are weighted differently depending how much the engine weighs.

jungleistmassiv

it will be the bump stops mate

when i did my cabby the front end was very very low, took it down the road and it bottomed out everywhere even on the slightest bump

this was a 40mm drop aswell, now im sure the shock only has 60mm travel on them so removing the bump stop is ging to cause problems

when i fitted my bump stops back on the car drove better and the ride was nice, but becuase the car had been bottoming out the springs had already compressed where they wanted to go so the car was still low but the bump stops raised it up slightly

enough that i was happy with

its not far off the bump stops

as i said once you bottom the shock out a couple of times the springs wont be doing there job so will compress and settle in too far this is what happened to mine

you need the bump stops regardless

but also th eback end will always be higher on a hatchback anyway due to no weight on the back

most of my old escorts have been the same and usually had to take a coil off the rear springs, until i went for 60 at the back and 40 at the front and it settled nicely

the reason i went 40 all round on my caby was it was sumer and the weight of the roof doen settle the car lovely

ok mate there is a ford scrapper round the corner from me so i'll go and get some. before i start taking it all apart will you just expand on exactly how the bumpstops raise it up a bit, i thought the spring was what determined the ride height? thanks!

does it crash and bang when you hit a pot hole?

if so then the shocks bottoming out so will need these anyhow

the front will be very low anyway as thats just the gmax kit

but because the bump stops have been removed the springs has settled in further than it should of

so you not going to get the height back, may get a little but the ride should be better

it was on mine

also why its aart ake srure the srings are not upside down aswell, i dont think you can but just double check

this was the gmax kit on mine with a 40mm drop

as you can see the front is lower than the back, this is how all gmax kits are

yeah thats it! thats exactly what mine look like now. so if i get some bumpstops sorted out and some 20mm springs maybe, do you think this would level things out and sort out the ride?

if you get 20mm springs it will raise it yes

and the bump stops will stop the shock bottoming out
