Default Opinions chaps - Fiesta ST 150

Right, saw one of these the other day when my mum was sorting out her new car at Ford and I have to say I really like them. Usable, fun car (but it'd be my 'toy' if I bought one as I've got a TD Focus as the everyday car) but would it be a sensible / good idea to replace my S1 with one ? What do they go like ?

Welcome your opinions peoples

i test drove one, and it was real nice, nice spec, toys and handled ace

would really bug me though, as its expensive to tune, and no turbo

I really like em, obviously not in the same league as a tuned Turbo, but for what they are, i think the chassis more than makes up for lower power output.

There are plenty of engine upgardes including a 2.3, and i've seen quotes of 200+bhp with one of those.

TBH I'd leave it as it is ! What I'm thinking is it'll be 'nippy' should go well and have creature comforts ie. power steering, air-con etc and be a nice 'usable' car - which as much as I love my S1, she just isn't.......

they do look cool, personally id get one and make it into a track toy, or try and get one with a fooked engine and turbo it

300bhp zetec/duratec in that fwd chassis would be a cracking little car

Don't want to spend that much money TBH mate. My S1 is a toy, any replacement that I consider will be the same and I can't justify spending that much money on something that only comes out on high days and holidays. If I was going to spend that sort of money on any car I'd be better off keeping the S1 and buying a new TDCi Focus......

Have you considerd an ST170? Can't go wrong as you already know how much you like the focus.

Yeah, but that doesn't really do it for me Benni. I'd rather keep my S1 than get one of those !

A fun little car. Obviously not as big balled and knuckle draggingly "worthy" as Cosworths or [insert RS variant] but fun all the same. With a few suspension tweaks (springs or coilovers depending on your preference or wallet and a nice strut brace) and a couple of engine mods (plenty of exhaust systems out there, cams, Dreamscience remap etc) and you'll have a fun enough track car.

If you care to check out pages 136 to 141 of November 2007 Peformance Ford you'll see my mate Chris Morgan in the Beat The ST feature. Now let me see... what cars did he beat (and my other half Arun Dhanapala) in the table.... As yes

fiesta ST is a nice car, but to replace an S1? you'd have to be mental.

ST would definitely be a better everyday car, no question, but as you say, you already have one of those!

cracks me up when the guys at work say "there's a fiesta (or focus) ST in the car park!" and i say "wait ten minutes, there'll be three more along in a minute"

they're everywhere!

you have the best looking car that ford have ever made, an icon.

why change that for something that looks like a zetec with bigger wheels that you'll be garuanteed to see it's double everytime you drive it?

Unfortunately, i'm not a lady, a lad under 20 or a gayer but I still have on. Fun little cars with plenty of tuning potential. I'd say it would fit the description as more of an everyday car rather than a weekend toy though, in standard form.

An ST car from Ford will never have the rawness or respect an RS brings but that was never the intention. Ultimately, and it took me a long time to realise it, they're really nothing special so if you're after the wow factor then keep looking.

for those who don't have an S1, an ST would be a great car.

anything need doing on your S1? maybe splash some cash on it, give it a new feel? will get rid of the "need retail therapy" feeling!
