I give up!!!!!
Spent the last 9 months buying bits for my cossie whilst it’s been off the road (turbo, grey’s etc), finally finished it a couple of weeks ago, booked it in for a set up at Julian Godfrey to find the piston rings, bores & valve guides are all worn.
Not sure what to do now, so tempted to pack it all in and sell it, but doubt I will get much with the engine in its current oil burning state.
My other options are to either get the engine rebuild, or buy a ready built one (Anyone got a ready built uprated block)
What do I do?
Matt

Mate, don't give up, at least you've still got ur car, get it sorted, theres too many cossies being taken off the road and broken imo.
Keep it and sort it!

if that'sthe biggest problem you've got with it, you're doing well. all you need is a rebore, new ring set (and maybe new pistons) and new valve guides pressing in. find a good supplier of parts (cosworth racing sell parts directly at good prices) and a good machine shop and you can get it sorted for probably 600 quid.

foreignRS, I've always considered you one of the more knowledgable forum users, but your above post has concerned me:
"all you need is a rebore, new ring set (and maybe new pistons) and new valve guides pressing in."
You should know that if you rebore a block, obviously you need NEW oversize pistons to go with the larger bore!!!
Re-ringing a worn engine is not advisable.
Also regards the valve guides it's not as simple as that. Obviously the entire head must be stripped down, and the old valve guides pressed out. The head must then be heated and the new guides installed. After this is done all 16 valve seats must be recut as the new guides will not be concentric with the old seats. This will entail all the valves to be refurbished, new valve stem oil seals, the valves relapped in and fully assemebled. As anyone who machines cossie heads will know, re-cutting valve seats on a YB head on std ports is a nightmare due to the thickness of the valve seat. In addition it will require a reface, so all this is quite a time consuming job!!
Cost wise you're looking at into the 000's for all this not £600!!
