a friend showed me a link to a 1.8 escort si ghia, anyway on the engine pic its got 1.8 litre 105 injection and on the engine cover "DOHC" which mine doesnt, i thought it would be the 1.8 zetec like my GTi?
Ford are so confusing

Yep.
Me and my housemate both had Mk6 Si back in 97, and both were 105 engines.
They used a lot of leftover engines from the Mk5 facelift stuff, before making them 115s like the GTi around the late N reg.

Ford are the masters of changing things around all over the place for little or no reason.

this would explain why my mates 1.8si R reg always felt faster than my 1.8si P reg, they could have different power outputs,
