I can just imagine the heat buildup, starting with a 4-wheel wheelspin then pullnig for 1.5 miles or more after that.
Heat build up would not be more than doing a 20minute session on a track would it

Wow that's insane. Glad to see you're alright after a blow out like that. Best of luck repairing your car and finding new tires.

It's nice to say that I walked away from it, 178mph is fast to loose a tyre.

I dunno man, in my opinion this IS lucky!! As was his crank failure....... Think about it, crank could have scrapped the whole engine but didnt, and 180mph blowout could have totaled the car and seriously injured martoon.

i did some top speed runs in the xr2 @ brunters last week on my r888's and the heat build up is clearly visable which i didnt think would realy happen as severe on straight line stuff,

glad it was not more severe of fatal

How fast were you going? My yellow Rover did nearly 150 more than once without issues on 888's

in short : martin did not choose the wrong tire !! it just let him down

on a personal note : glad its just damage to the car m8, body damage cant be repaired as easy

michael

for those interested in the speed ratings : http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyrspeed.html

and what he used (i suppose) was a 235/40ZR18
The tyre that failed was a 265/35x18, Dunlop are having it back for analysis. They have said that the tyre is Z rated so good for 186.

what stories mate?

they are ZR Y rated which is the highest.

I use these with no worries.

We tested them on the rollers at 195 and they were cool.

3 pages and no more pics. Is there much damage or does it just look very minor. What sort of speed was you hoping the car would pull to if it happened at 178?

Aye I bet Dunlop are very interested as they don't want this kind of thing going on with their tyres. Hopefully they can get some useful info from the remains.

Glad you're OK Martoon.

I don't need to see the pics to know its going to be pretty fucked but my guess is it will be repairable.

Just think about what that tyre is doing whiles its slapping round at that speed - have you seen the metal in a bold tyre .....
