Default Plate that goes between gearbox and engine (cossie)

Took the car to bits many many month ago, anyway, I have a new plate that goes betwen the box and the block, i know it can really only go on one way, but my question is which way does the foam stuff go, i.e pointing toward the block or the box(i think it's this) Just want to know so i can go home and get on with it, no fooking second guesses.

But isn't the template symmetrical, i.e can be put on either way round? All i'm asking is "can it" because from memory it can. And what is the black foam bit for anyway?

Rog,

Will only go on 1 way as it has the hole for the starter which is on the N/S of the engine.
