Default xr3i MFI engine problems :(

ok finaly after bout 2 months got the xr3i engine running well almost u start it try to give it any throal cuts out running lump as fook got new leads and plugs new dizzie cap now it wont even tick over and sounds like some thing is flowing in the engine like petrol or something any one help is apreshaed (fell like giving in )

let it tick over for a bit till it heats up then see if it revs fine

cant leve it tickin over or it conks out well got it to tick over for bout 3 secs then conk out agen please some one must no !!

dont no cant tell 1st time working on a 3i engine realy need some one that can shot random ideas at me or some one that noes wat there doing ?? dont have a clue how to do the fulein

is this the same XR3I snoopy is working on? or a diff one?

well lumpy running could be a few things. fooked injector, fuel distributor, low compression on one or 2 or more cylinders, idle speed control valve fooked, spark, hard to say really what is up with it tbh

yeah my bros car just cant work it out mite be better to just get another engine now the looms sorted just a mater of sticking a new engine in and conecting it up will see if i can find one so he dont have to sell it

it'll be summit simple mate, dont give up until you know what it is, trial and eror is what u'll need to do its a cunt but it works. dont give up, post some more details of what its doin if u can.

ok : car starts runs lumpy sounds like the timeings out then try to give it some revs and it just stals and if u dont try to rev it it stals anyway then u hear something wat i can only exsplane as a flowing sound like something running frew the engien like something being pored in smells like petrol ,, taken the plugs bak out and one off then had black shit on it wat i think meens its running rich ??theres also a conecter that i dont o were i gose theres a white one and a black one i tryed them both on the same plug and it dose the same thing ?? the wire colours are black and red and brown on the white i thoink and black yellow and brown on the black ?? tryed priming the fule pump and starting it still dose the same ?

thinking bout taking the head off setting it to tdc putting a new gaskit on and then tring it dont no how to adjust the fireing timein so cant ajust that ?

translation from luke89: when the car is started it runs lumpy like a missfire, all new plugs and leads have been tried/replaced.

once it is started and you give it some throttle the engine dies.

there is 2 plugs that come up in the wiring between the throttle body and the dizzy, can only find 1 connector they can plug in to so unsure which one to use?
White Plug: black, red and brown
Black Plug: black, yellow and brown

I had a similar problem with mine mate, ended up gettin really annoyed with it, taking the injection system off, putting an XR2 carb on it and straight away it ran beautifully. I could beat Xr's too with the single carb.

Another thing to consider, if its a MFi XR engine, they have bigger valves than standard CVh heads, think thats how mine went well, i.e decent carb and big valve head.

how do you go about running it on a carb? does the loom need changing or any thing? also what carb would be best to use?

Benn - when its running is it running on all 4 ?

Simple things to check first, are the leads on in the correct order, is the timing correct etc.

Fuel, air and sparks is all you need in the correct order.

Re the coloured plugs are any putting out a +ive voltage when switched off or with ignition on or wih engine running - do some simple checks first.

i have just emailed you the bosch k-jetronic manual in PDF format, read this and try to understand it (might take a few reads before it sinks in) it tells you everything you need to know to to diagnose and fix your problem.
