Default E46 BMW suspension

Sorry PForders...

But I know theres a few know alls on here.

Got a mate with an E46 320d- says the suspension is too wishy washy..

Fine....

Wants to put coil overs on it - he has a baby

Anyway- the question- Is it a relativly stright forward job to swap the suspension- IE Cossie or RST as I have done shocks/springs on both before.

Is a spax or koni kit just as good as a cossie stuff- IE would he be better going for that than the coil over option.?

E46 handles better out of the box than a cossie with a spring/damper kit

Go for H&R stuff for the BMW - they have had years of expereince with BMW chassis tuning and have some top products.

Easy enough to change aswell, unless it has any electronic height adjustors or stuff like that

although i have no experience of your specific application the experience i do have with bmw's and coilovers i would advise against coilovers for normal road use especially if he has a baby as they tend to be far to harsh. same with the spax adjustable kits ive used, even the softest setting was to harsh for road use. ive never used the h+r stuff graceland mentions above but they are highly rated in bmw circles. i personally use the uprated bilsein kit on my bmw for a comfortable but firm ride.

No way you would persuade me to use Coilover setup on that car - it would ruin it forever on the road.

As stated - go for an uprated kit instead.

I have got a set of Eibach springs on my 325 E46 and the differance they made were unreal.. it feels so much more sure footed on the road now!

Best buy I ever made... apart from my 19" AC's..

Might help to find out what is causing the 'wishy washy' sensation. It might not be anything to do with the suspension.

Nail down what is wrong and then attack it rather than flail(c) and chuck parts at it.

Also, after talking to many more knowledgeable people than me on coilovers it seems that they are rather extreme and will kill the normal ride.

Also its a diesel for gawds sake, why is he thinking of coilovers. Get a set of decent uprated shocks and go with that.

Cheers guys...

He's one of my best mates but doesn't quite "get it" at times...

I knew coilovers would suck and be no good..

Tiff- its not the tyres now- he's had a brand new set of wheels and matching tyres.

I think the problem is- it squats

Somet to go on though- thanks everyone.

Eibach springs are good on the E46. Presume it isnt the M Sport version? Maybe he could get some M Sport springs for it?

Jake, also the e46 is know for bad rear trailing arm bushes, these could be causing it to squirm. Check these out
