Default What are we going to do about the errors on here?

Its really starting to ruin PassionFord for me

Since nothing seems to be getting done about it from an admin side of things, I will ask a question.

Is there anything WE as users can do?

Surely there has to be I.T people on here that could help sort things?

Thats the thing though, I dont think Petrucci has been online for months. I think he has had a kid or something so cant come on (not my prob tbh) but all the membership/trade money being paid and from what I can see nothing getting done.

I await to be shot down

[FLAME_ SUIT]

I offered FREE access of a suite of professional servers/hosting and super
fast connection in this country about a year ago and it was kindly refused.
(That facility has NOTHING to do with me personally LOL)

Its Pet's site and I suppose its up to him to do with it as he wants !
As he has his own hosting facilities, I guess its easier for him to use that
but I am of the opinion its not quite up to the job as this place has
probably got bigger than was expected. !

IMO, its only going to get worse unless hosting is moved or large
investment is made on new equipment.

Pet has bigger things to worry about at the moment so we should be
patient and await to see what happens.

imo this site is going down hill unless some thing is done. To me its not the same site as when I 1st all got here i know its got a lot more people on the site and so on. but this site has not helped it self with some of the rules and mods that look after it. either pet sells it on to some who wants to run this site and wants to much it better or we all fuck off to the rsoc where we all came from before well got here

Like SECS, ive also offered to help out for free if Pet needs a hand, but he isnt interested in anyone else doing anything besides him (understandable TBH) but sadly it does appear that he doesnt have much time to do stuff either, so the net effect is that the site probably doesnt get the input it requires from ANYONE as a result.

Shame really, as the amount of money generated should certainly be more than enough to cover a really fantastic setup if it was hosted by enthusiasts rather than by a businessman, but at the end of the day, if I was Pet, I wouldnt want to give up on an easy source of income TBH either.

phpBB is also exceptionally poor for large forums and a search using any popular search engine related to this subject brings up a wide range of tweaks, hacks and modifications both official and unofficial to help this situation, however the fact remains phpBB does not like large forums which is why most run vBulletin

The problem is related to the size of the database associated with the forum and how phpBB writes to it using multiple instances once it becomes a certain size, assuming that nobody else is going to host the forum, the only thing the users can do is reduce the size of the database and how the forum is being hit.... easy way to do this is to reduce the number of 'chat' threads and possibly areas like the muppet room.

the last information i received was that pet was porting everything over to vbulletin.
it takes time to move everything across im sure most would love to loose gold memberships and everyone re-register and then it would be the few who moan they have lost post counts etc...

pet has other issues to sort aswell as having a full time job..
let the bloke try to sort things out..

Shame really, as the amount of money generated should certainly be more than enough to cover a really fantastic setup if it was hosted by enthusiasts rather than by a businessman, but at the end of the day, if I was Pet, I wouldnt want to give up on an easy source of income TBH either.
oooof!

No was only a few at first. Just people like me who used the RSOC daily. Then it grew and grew by the day.

Renton did a thread the other day about the people that registered on the first day

Well maybe Pet's company making money isnt classed the same as Pet himself making money???

I havent seen that said so I cant really comment accurately, but someone is certainly earning out of it somewhere along the line.

that seems a little harsh Stu!

He did say "seems" as there is nothing obvious to be seen.

Hope you had a great day btw

I just want to know how the hell this place is making enough money to cover the bandwidth costs as most forums run a lot more adds to cover the costs from my experience or have someones wallet taking up the slack.

As an example I have just been quoted for a site I am constructing .....

£50 per month, 500 gb transfer allocation.

100 POP3 emails

100 gb storage

PHP 4, SQL support.

Choice of Unix servers or Win 2003 server

Multiple traffic feeds via High speed SDSL

They have better options than I have listed too for a bit more cash !

Probably not quite enough for PF but its near enough !
