Default Who does hillclimbing?

Anyone?

Just reading up on it on a few websites, and it looks really quite good.

I quite fancy it, got a few friends who are into it, just wondering what everyone (if anyone?) thinks to it?

I did the ACSMS (Association of Southern Motor Sport) hillclimb and sprint championship for six years in a 1400cc Circuit Mini Cooper S (The real mini, not the BMW Version). Had a great time and alot less damage than doing circuit racing, and alot cheaper. Regular venues were Goodwood, Rotherfield Park, Gurston Down.

Give it ago.........

We often pop along to Loton Park to watch hillclimbing. Try and get along to there and have a look.

You have to make the decision between : fun/safety or adrenaline/risky.

Hillclimbing is awesome because you get lot of speed sensation, going flatout between trees like in rallying, but the bad side is if you crash, you crash HARD. Hillclimbing is like a tarmac rally special stage, but very short, it is all about racing line, but on normal roads.

Hi young Dan

take a look at these websites. Hillclimbs are fairly popular in Europe.

I've been sprinting (ie hillclimbs on the flat) for 6-7 years in the ASWMC champsionship. Plenty of classes from totally standard to single seaters to anything that has 4 wheels! Minimal requirements to get started - helmet, fireproof overalls, non race competition license, beam splitter on the front of the car and competition numbers!.

Unlike racing where its first over the line, you are against the clock - any mistake looses you time. Its amazing how fast some people can peddle low powered std hatch backs!

Used to be 'involved' years ago...wasn't driving though lol.

it's great, although as said there isn't that much racing for your money....tracks vary from 25seconds to 60seconds generally....and i guess you'll probably only do about 10 runs over the course of a weekend.

It's a good spectator sport though, with some very impressive cars....the car we used to race would outrun an f1 car to about a ton

my favourite tracks were;

Doune (in Scotland)
Harewood ( yorkshire,leeds way)
Loton Park ( Nr Shrewsbury from memory? )
Prescott ( Nr Cheltenham )
Shelsley Walsh ( Worcestershire ).

There are loads of different classes though, to suit any car you might have

Hey kenny, if you look on my website :

www.XenShots.net

you'll find lot of hillclimb pictures in Switzerland.

Maybe we could meet on the Swiss' round of the european championship at St-Ursanne this year ?

EDIT : Sorry I have just seen that my website is currently OFFLINE so I'll work on that now,

Karl (NMS) bro competes in some Northern Hill climb/sprint champ in the Cossie Sunbeam and does quite well I understand..

Very very fast and furious and very close at the top.... class wise he cometes with some pretty mega stuff

Not that the ickle old sunbeam isn't exactly a weapon.
