TRANSCO people, plumbers etc.
The house i am currently buying does not have gas. The next door nabour(SP) had gas installed so there is a supply outside. Not signed contracts yet so just after an idea what people pay for gas connected. house wall is 2m from pavement. Is it a set price or can it vary the current owner said £600 a few years ago. Cheers

i use to work for fulcrum connections, they deal with all the work for transco for people who dont have a gas supply, its a standard charge if your within 20 metres of the gas main wich depends on what part of the country you live in

Check when they quote you though that it includes digging the trench etc to do the connection as sometimes people dont realise this and they turn up, say that theres no hole and fuck off, leaving you another 6 weeks to wait! It is usually cheaper if you prepare the hole ready for connection, but make sure it is big enough for them to work in, and make sure not 1 single GRAIN of soil has droped on the pipe as the idle bastards wont remove it themselves as they think they are above doing such jobs

We had National Grid pipe in gas to our new house about a month ago. Cost £500. They dug a hole by the main supply just at the edge of the property and one where the supply was being fitted. They used a mole (mechanical, not a little animal ) to run the pipe from the edge of the property to the side of the house so they didnt have to dig a trench at all. They left the holes unfilled for a week to make sure there werent any leaks and then came and put it back exactly they way it was. Top job really.

OK not too bothered if it costs £1k tbh as the house is having loads spent on it anyway. Will be dug up ready tbh from the ground works etc. Do they still install the brown ground boxes that go outside as i don't fancy a surface white box. otherwise i will get a flush one put in ready.

i am a british gas engineer, in my experiences it all depends on the area and the location the meter is to be fitted and labout times. call 0800 111 999 and just ask them on the phone they will prob send sum 1 to survey and give a cost to u its the easiest way.
and more often they will mole the pipe if it goes under any concrete more than7 or 8 ft across
transco are lazy

Interesting to read all this..
I am a QS on the west midlands gas alliance- we're changing all the pipe in the west midlands from metal to PE (plastic)
The direction drilling is quite clever stuff.
