Get a 2.3 duratec mate

I know of one that made 280bhp on 52mm TB's and few other mods, went like the clappers.

Its been bored to a 2.5 now and having some bigger tb's fitted will be aiming for a solid 300bhp+

The Jamsport 2.5 is a beast. I'd suggest the 2.3L Duratec over any zetec as well. People who make the conversion for their Fiesta usually get them from the Ford Ranger, I do beleive.

Up to 200 bhp ZETEC
Over 200 bhp DURATEC

Judging overall (costs, ease of fitting, reliability etc)

the 2.0 duratec in the fiesta ST is the same as whats in the mk3 mondeo (if your looking for one).

Pretty sure they are a mazda engine and not a ford engine.

i think you can get a 2.0 duratec from any 2001 mondeo or focus

the 2.3 comes from a mazda 6 mps or a ranger or the usa

i seen one on ebay before

the 2.0 duratec is the mazda z engine

its still a ford engine though,,, hence it was used in the states focus though NO VVT

ford/mazda are the same company just like landrover v6 diesel is also a jag v6 diesel engine

as i said,,, i worked at ford and i worked as a partsman for mazda AND ford in the SAME parts department

also was offered to go portugal for the MPS launch,, though i think i was asked as they KNEW i couldnt make it

Depends on what motor you are going to put it in and if you are going FWD or RWD.

The Zetec uses the same bellhousing bolt pattern Ford have used since 1959.. in fact you can bolt an Anglia bellhousing straight up to a Zetec.

You cant do this with a Duratec which means if you were thinking of using a FWD gearbox from something like an ST170 you'd be screwed as they dont mate up.

Like I said, depends on what you are doing FWD or RWD

The other one to watch is the ST170 Focus has Duratec on the cam cover but its actually a Zetec, the same for the Focus Arse I believe.

Badged Duratec but actually Zetec

i have a new plan of attack with the rs200,going rear engined
so i need an engine that i can get about 170+bhp from and be reliable, would love to go duratec, but by the sounds of it,it will be expensive to convert onto a fwd box.

so in the zetec range i would go for a 2.0l,but which is better? (silver or black top)

thanks for the input guys

You shouldn't have a problem with the gearbox and the duratec as it has been used for various ford cars the past few years now, the required bell housings are out there for the v6 and I4 engines.

The V6 has been in use longer than the I4 so it may be easier to go down that route and use the 3.0 version out of a st220 for example, but you really want one from a jag as it has a better head. There is also a newer 3.5 and 3.7 version of the V6 but I don't think that has made its way into any cars over in europe yet.

If you want to go down the I4 route then the 2.3 duratec is a much better choice over the zetec as the head flows more, it doesn't take much to get 100bhp per litre out of it. Plus you can get plenty of cosworth goodies for the duratec.
