New mobiles
no offence intended to anyone, but whats the crack with having the latest phone? and why do they need all the stuff on them?
When I was at my last place all the goons would croud around someone who'd just got the latest phone and then it would get passed around like a newborn baby does with loads of "oohs" and "ahhhs"
Or is it the age old case of "keeping up with the Jones's" ?
Bizarre
My Nokia 6100 does everything I want it to do (IE make and recieve calls, text) and its about half the size of any of the new ones which means I hardly know its in my pocket, I wouldnt change it for anything I'll have it buried with me

............
I have an orange spv e650
I use 99% of the features
ie Wifi, office mobile, msn, activesync with my pc etc etc
People should just buy what they will use.....but its advertising and pride and fucking stupidity that makes most people get a new phone

Phone must:

Camera
Video Camera

Wap/Internet

Loads more, but they are the musts of today.
Its not that anyone is keeping up with anyone else, its just a fact that MOST new phones have those features as standard!
My new phone runs a windows OS for god's sake!

Its just manufacturers playing one upmanship, trying to cram as many useless features into it as they can simply to win customers, I bet if none of those things had made it onto a phone you wouldnt be whinging about not having them.
If anybody GENUINELY uses all that shit I'm so glad I dont do what you do

My Sony Ericsson has a 3.2mp camera that I use - I dont want to carry a normal camera around with me all the time.
it plays mp3's and for me is easier to use than an Ipod - it also negates the use of having a separate mp3 player and a phone.
it makes calls
sends text messages.
I use Wap on it as its useful for checking emails when out and about.
I do NOT want an N95 tho

My K800i has a 3.2 megapixel camera, I take it on holiday instead of a camera as the pics are so good!
It is, honestly, the best mobile I have ever had in 16 years, not too big either (which is what's putting me off the N95)
Agree about WAP though, not really a fan and don't really see the point in it.

WAP is old now, on most smartphones you can view the internet through a Wi-Fi connection. which means when you need to check ebay, emails, msn etc. etc. like most of us do these days, you can without the need for a laptop or PC.
I like these kind of gadgets and if you wait a year or buy a year old model you'll get all the features with change from a tonne!

The first phone i had off 3 was a nokia 6288 and it was ok but felt soooooo flimsy didnt think it would last for long let alone an 18month contract oh and the battery life was shocking, i was lucky to get a days use out of it this K610i will last a full 2-3 days, and thats with using it for the odd text or playing a song or two

Ive got one phone I use the net on, and my other phone is literally just for calls and text messages, I just phoned up for a new handset as was out of contract and conversation went like this:
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM A PHONE
I would like to be able to make calls, send text messages
Oh, and an alarm clock would be a bonus

This ones also a good phone, just been released on Tmobile as the MDA touch.
If you want to get into PDA/Pocket PC teratory without carrying a big phone these are great - they are just as small as your everyday phones.
Not quite as feature packed as the bigger phones but you still get:
- Windows Mobile 6
- GPRS/EDGE (no 3G)
- WIFI
- 2 megapixel camera
- bluetooth

and to those who say why get the latest phone... how about because it was a free upgrade? or should i have stuck with my old school rattly old phone instead?
plus, whatever you say, free internet access courtesy of unsecured wifi and nokia maps are both coooooool! (obviously unless you'd rather carry a phone, camera, pda for free wifi and also a tomtom go with you at all times... )

uses it for the gps and emails and stuff and it takes pictures so he's happy
it's a bit of a clunker though, i was happy with my 6230 and my 6100, but now i've got a 6230i to replace it and it's loads better now i've got a phone with a camera and video and voice recording on it don't use most of the options because it's only a phone at the end of teh day, but i wouldn't say no to one of them gps thingies if it was given to me
