Pass - PM Marco - I had the superior 4wd set up, and didn't break a diff due to my talent behind the wheel

Got your PM, should still have it, but not seen it recently. Will try and find in the pile of bits that was my car (now 99% stripped!). Will report back.

do what the americans do to the xr4ti that they have ( 2.3 turbo powered xr4i) when the put in a big power v8, buy one of these ( Ł240 at the exchange rate )
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW

and mount it like this

http://www.merkurtech.com/merkurtech...dg88kit013.jpg
http://www.merkurtech.com/merkurtech...dg88kit013.jpg

do a search on google for 8.8 xr4ti, takes some finding but loads on the net about it, common convertion over the pond, and bits are so cheap.

The idea with the XR8 sounds quite fun - Ill have a look at the threads and see if I can get my head round, but lets have a look at the 9" diff thing first.

I have two sets of cossie shafts - so presumably two long shafts?, but where does the diff come from - what donor car?

Am I being thick? - it is a 2wd beam,

you can get ratios from 2.73 right up to 6+:1 the choice is amazing, and they only cost about Ł100 or less a time plus a few quid to ship, check out ebay usa http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/8-...2e8QQ_catZ6000

i think for price the 8.8 would be the way to go, i would say do some research so you get the right bits and Ł500 would be all you need.

i'm not sure never looked into it properly, but it seams its the way the americans go, and they use the original shafts, not sure if they make the bits or if you can buy them as a kit.

Yup - I think that I shant be looking for a 9" diff at all! BEtter to just use the 7.5" as disposable!

i,m not too sure these days, i think you can probably pick up a 4.4 ratio for around Ł1500 but the one i have is the ultra rare 3.6 ratio ....so worth quite a lot more!

hi mate

i have a 7.5 Gripper plated Diff in my 3door and have not broke it yet

saying that i have a 9" x trac plated diff ready to fit

i have part ex it for the 9"

if you have the uprated Viscous coupling thats is a hell of alot better than a standard unit for better traction/handling and the uprated planet gears makes it alot stronger

the most you can uprated the standard VC plates in the 7.5 diff is 240Nm

you could always use the nickel plates which are alot thicker and you can uprated the VC even more 400Nn+ obviously more money for the nickel plates

pound for buck the uprated VC/planet gears is the way to go

All sounds rather technical, Marco! I think you should just sell me the Gripper diff instead! ROFL
