I stayed at the Quality Hotel in Andover once and it was a pile of shite.

Anything with the name Quality in it is trying too hard and should probably be avoided.

Some nice B&B pub places in York to stay.

Cheers

Quality Hotel in York is in a decent location, probably less than 10 minutes walk until you start to hit nightlife.
The travel lodge is almost right opposite, and it has a Wetherspoons pub adjoining it...

I have never stayed there but from the outside it looks clean and modern. Its only a few years old. I would expect it to be just like a travel inn/travel lodge/holiday inn inside... (Budget hotel).

Dont know about the Ramada. Is it next to the river?

Lee

The Quality Hotel is about as central as you would want to be to town centre. Its about 5 mins walk tops. Its away from the main nighlife areas so will be quite. It does have a weatherspoons below it but that is fairly quiet. Its opposite my flat and get no hassle noise there.

The Ramada - Shipton Road is well out of town, infact its the wrong side of the outer ring road. Not sure if its this one or the Ramada Encore you mean. This one isnt great inside. I stayed about 2 yrs ago. I wouldnt say its as grand as the pictures suggest.

Ramade Encore is central again, on the main road into town. Refurbished in last couple of years. About 5 mins from town centre. Theres a quality bar/nightclub in a converted church next door (The parish). The noise from it doesnt leave the building so wont affect the hotel. The pizza shops are opposite.

Decent pub next door and its at the top of the micklegate run. Just outside bar walls so you dont get the noise. Its about 2-3yrs old and looks clean and tidy inside and out. About 10 mins walk to city centre.
