it should have some kind of baffle plate inside the rocker cover, fitted there as standard. If you have removed this, then yes there is your problem.

I got through 2 of these engines in my focus due to excessive oil burning, and have heard of many stories on the ffoc about it, i read that number 4 ring is very prone to wear, especissaly under hard use.

Could be worth looking into? compression test etc?

Apologies, yes it does have a baffle plate under the cover.

just running a pipe from the rocker cover, but thats it.

Thing is, it started smoking AFTER the TBs, never did before with just cams, so I'm thinking it's either a breathing problem or the valve stem oil seals.

Nah I expect its the change in vaccum and the point at which your connecting the breather in.

For example, On a K-series there are two seperate chambers, both filled with steel mesh, that connect the beather to the cam area.

I'd modify that breather stright to atmosphere and see what happens!

Rich, The Zetec S and the focus 1.6 are diffferent engines IIRC.

see, vaccum, like ive told you all along

breathers sucking in makes engines smoke like a cunt

zero either way is ok, vaccum out is better, vaccum in makes smoke.

1way valves! now!

Just been to homebase to see if they have any

Do they fuck!

I've put a catch tank in (Robinsons pure fruit drink bottle ) And it seems there isn't anytihng in the catch tank (after a little blast, but it fucking stinks of oil.)

At the moment it is straight to atmosphere( I think!) It's just a pipe from rocker cover to the outside world.

the early focus 14./1.6 and the fiesta zetec s use the same zetec-se engines.

Dan, that should be fine mate, hellfrauds do sell those filters (look like minature k&ns) that go on to the end of the breather pipe. could be worth fitting one of these to stop any shit getting in?

no they dont stop air sucking in. when i had a different filter on my focus, i used one of these breather filters, just whacked it on the end of the original pipe, worked a treat. But if your baffle plate is there inside the cam coverm you shouldn't have bucket loads of oil coming down this pipe. When does it smoke? On hard acceleration or on let off? My vote is on either stem seals or rings.

no they just filters, all they will do is get very oily.

fucks sake, its like nobody can see the obvious stuff, engines breathing in via the rocker or crankcase can make them smoke like cunts when there is no worn engine, sort it

ive seen dickheads rebuild engines, fitting new turbos, rings, valve stem seals allsorts, and all it was was this breather problem.
people should fucking listen sometimes

why would homebase have 1way valves?
they fitted to pipes from brake master cyls etc etc, need to get em from a car place if you get them ones, tho 1way valves are used for all sorts, not just car stuff.

Cos plumbers use them, don't they?

I'll go to a car place during the week.

I am listening Stav, it's just this thread turned to a breathing post.

No, not had new stem seals. Not sure what the head is from.

I'll do the one way valve thing, if it keeps smoking then I'm gonna whip the head off and do the stem seals.
