Nice one Jim Bluefin only seems to give at max 8bhp at very top rpm - do reckon it would be worthwhile Ł300.00 ? Or save it for mapping or something else ?

I doubt live mapping would get you any more, not enough to really notice, its a stock ST170 isnt it?
Basicly your car is what the Superchip map is made for, cant see there being much more in the way of adjustments that can be made thatd make it worth the time money or trouble.
Live mapping is more useful with much more modified cars, with much bigger power increases, ie Turbos.
300quids a lot for 8bhp IMO, if you want to tune a car for a really noticable amount of extra performance at a worthwhile price, a modern n/a engine is soo not the engine to have.
Good old turbos

Im told theres nothing to be gained from the ST170 engine from chips / mapping. (maybe stu can confirm that? )
Bluefin only improves the mid range acceleration and allows adjustments to the ecu for things like K+N filter, de-cate pipe and timing for high ron fuel (super unleaded).
Would be nice to see the magic 200 bhp from a ST170 engine but to reach that i think the rev limit has got to be raised to somewhere around 8750 rpm becuase the engine isnt going to make it without forced induction

I suppose my question really is - has anyone tried it, or is it just Superchips at the mo. But if Jimbo is right then it might be worth holding out to see if theres another option.

troble is there just not the capacity for improvements. The 2.0l focus engine was improved from the 130 bhp to make the 170 bhp and thats about as far as it can be taken without serious flow working and high rev limits.
WIth forced induction (turbos etc) you can always increase the amount that is forced and there for upping the power. Not so easy on a N/A engine

It feels like it struggles between 3500 and 5000 rpm (like its reving but being held back a little) and then between 5000 and 7400 rpm its free reving again, suppose the low down is the VVTI and the high up is the VVTI working, it just mine seams to be a bit weak inbetween.
I must admit im going to try a ram air scoop and K+N panel filter then maybe a bluefin to see if it helps mid range

Suppose its ok low down, but like you say its the mid range band (i suppose my old RST used to pull like hell at this point so kinda making a comparison). Its just that i find myself keeping it in a lower gear, just in case i need to overtake.
