Sensor either faulty, or more likely incorrectly set up

Very odd, think I would start by checking belt timing markings, ie cam/dizzy/crank.

How can the car run without the phase sensor plugged in?

I've heard of cars running better with the Idle Speed Control Valve unplugged, but never the Phase Sensor??

the ecu doesnt look for the phase signal every rpm, only every 500 odd iirc
so if the engine is running you can unplugg it, then the ecu will make up the reading if its unplugged again iirc

It MAY revert to batch firing if phase unplugged.
