my escort GTi hasnt been running as well as it should for a few weeks now.

the engine was cutting out when slowing down to a standstill a few weeks back. got the AA out who told me it was the idle control unit which was clogged up in carbon and needs cleaning out. but now it has started misfiring really bad in every gear. spoke to a few people who said this would be the coil pack so i have replaced this with a new one but still misfires.

i havent cleaned up the idle control unit yet but it has stopped cutting out lately so not sure wether this is the problem now after all.

next on my hit list is the plugs which should hopefully change today or tomorrow but would there be anything else that im overlooking???

any help would be great...

didn't zetec engines suffer from sticking valves if the oil is not changed regualarly??

Have you been regular

Can you pop off a lead at a time and see if you can pinpoint the misfire to a certain plug, check the leads, and plugs for condition.

just got some new plugs so will put them on for tomorrow and will get some new leads too for it aswell if it dont work.

oil was changed few weeks back but is a tad overfilled so im gonna suck a bit out through the dipstick hole in the morning.

hopefully this will cure it

overfilled oil that had soaked the spark plugs.

drained the oil and changed the plugs and like magic no more misfires
