Default Anyone use Mintex Extreme pads?

Quick question, as per the title, does anyone use the extreme pads from mintex for trackdays?

My local supplier is trying to convince me these are every bit as good as my trusted Ferodo DS2500 pads.

I think this is because he's a lazy fuck and cant be bothered to get me the ferodos in stock.

Anyone ?

The car in question is a relativly heavy 150bhp FWD saloon, using standard 270mm vented discs.

Thanks

I wouldn't pitch them as good as DS2500's.

The Extreme's are practically an 1144, but repackaged as a 'Fast Road' pad and in all honesty, often cheaper.

I can supply the Ferodo's if you want??

Cool ! They're for a Nissan Primera 2.0 16v eGT P10 model, 1994, M reg!

If you could find a price out i'd be grateful - I think (but dont take as gospel ) the part number is FCP600H?

Thanks,

Matt

there ALOT fucking cheeper than 1144's which are sort of still available

the 1155's are track pad though and the xtreme are just a more basic version of the 1144's

alot of ferodo dealers wont allow them to sell mintex for some reason, i work at a distribution place and something happened and we fell out with ferodo and that was also something to do with us doing mintex,,, though it might me due to us selling out own brand of pad too but never asked

for a heavy car like that id want more than fast road pads for track use

oh xtreme pads work out about 30% more than the standard mintec pads but the 1155's can be ALOT more

example ( though this is at cost price to me , bmw 330ci pads are 12 quid plus vat, the xtreme are 20 quid, the 1144's ( no longer available though) are 32 quid and the 1155's are 46 quid,, the 1166's are 90 fucking quid but aint got a cluw what there for,,, theres also 1177's available at 126 quid cost price for pads

if you was local to me i would have sorted you out a set of 1155's for the same price i sell motorfactors but sod posting em as ive never been good at that

I emailed Mintex about trying to get some 1144's for my Focus RS as they are currently out of stock of 1144's for the FRS, they suggested i use the xtreme pads and when i asked what the differences were between them i was told this :

"we have four materials in the Xtreme range with number five under development, these are matched via vehicle performance and weight. The material assigned to your Focus RS is X1 which has the initial performance of M1144 at 0.42 but with the benefits of noise reducing OE quality foil shims, lighter coloured dust deposits and a cheaper retail price. M1144 will continue in production for some time yet and may be further developed into a more focused track day material."

So yes the xtreme pad material is an update of the 1144 compound and has the same coeff rating as the 1144's

ask the tech guys what they would use on a track car,, see there responce mate

ive asked them for XRT-S-'s car and told them the spec and was told that xtreme are fast road pads but the 1155's are for the track

there not a pad pad though andy and for the cash there at green stuff prices for a better pad,,, not a heavy primera track car pad though

but then what do i know as ive never tested them if im honest,,, just going with that i was told by technical

drilled disks, never knew they was available yet unless there OE spec grooved and drilled ( some are belive it or not )

i agree with andy though, mintex stuff is pukka for not giving dusty wheels aswell as no squeek,, thats the worst thing some brakes do, im suprised people put up with it

Yeah the xtreme are aimed at fast road and light track, if you going hard track use you need either the 1155 or the Ferodo DS2500's as the 1144's will crack down the centre of the pad material ( as i found out on 2 sets of RST pads) Depends on what sort of track driver you are.

I have chosen 1144 for the FRS as i plan alot of road use and only the odd track day where i will go easy on the brakes. The RST i had used to get hammered to the limit on track use and i was always very very hard on brakes so i had to use DS2500's.

Now if i still had the ST170 and used that on track the xtreme pads would have been fine as a NA 170bhp medium weigh hatch doesnt build up enough speed/energy to need heavy brakes to slow it down between corners

BTW got xtreme pads in the missus fiesta zetec-s and they bite really well hot or cold and dont fade and feel just like 1144's to me

Forgot to say EBC = the biggest pile of shite you could fit to your car I have warped several sets of ebc discs and green pads on the RST and i know couple of guys having warped sets of discs and pads on the FRS's

Yeah your right they don't do em yet...how are on standard mintex discs?
Dont know about mintex discs as never used them. I used to use Tarox drilled and groved and they took alot of abuse or Tony/christian rate the Pagid discs as being good quality

I would not put DS 2500 on a shopping trolley myself.
Greenstuff(V4) formula is crap, but redstuff is ace, WAY better than DS range, or Mintex/pagid.
Yellowstuff is also road approved and works from cold.
I have tried all the above and now use redstuff but trying yelowstuff next.
NB pad cracking down the centre is NOT a fault, and pads are pefectly ok, though it worried myself until I had it confirmed by three diferent pad makers.

I think i've got it sorted.

Big thanks to christian by the way for looking into things for me

I've located a set of 1144's for the track taxi ! Ferodo do not do the 2500 compound for the hatch, just the 3000 which i think will be a bit too hard !

Looking around various forums, the 1144's seem to have a fairly good reputation, apart from being a bit dusty and squeally, but i can live with that.

Proof of the pudding is in the driving, so once ive bedded them in, we'll have a go at donnington !

Thanks again EVERYONE for help & advice, your all Stars !!!!!!

i'm using mintex extreme pads on a fairly high powered zetec turbo and i have to say the stopping power is very good. i havent been on a track with them yet.

the only thing is they give off alot of brake dust.

you wanna see the brake dust i got off the rear on my cossie from my halfords brake pads,, my wheels where black and it made em turn grey but just the rears as the 1144's where fine on the front ( i do rate the 1144's btw)

the next set im gonna be testing is the Autex pads for either a 850ci or the 330ci depending on what calipers i fit,,, but thats cause my firm make them and i get em free ,,,,, oh btw there a cheepo pad but i may aswell test em to show confidence in my product range,,,, good thing about being a "technical supervisor"
