cosworth steering rack??

make sure they give you a 'cosworth' rack back as IIRC they are a quick rack or as said check the tie rods haven't got play in them
- hold wheel and turn steering wheel to see if you can hold the wheel still.

no, thats how to check the ball joints on the tie rods before you change the rack 
this is how you check what Jtechsaff is saying.
they do have removable tierods
if you get it reconned they might give you a normal rack the cosworth rack is something like 2 3/4 turns normal Sierra racks 3+

on some racks you can buy the ball joint and arms seperate ,its the inner ball joint that wears out allowing play normally ,these are normally dead cheap ,and easy to fit
