Default SKYWAY STREETBEAT/FIREBIRD FREESTYLER (freestyle bmx)

Had 2 firebirds one dayglo powder coat (original) green,
one just chrome both had skyways ,one with a coaster brake and a supertuff raleigh burner nicked from my
grannys back garden about 10 years ago, they were my youth and
some thevin tit nicked my babies.
decided to look for stuff on ebay and when i found a firebird
on ebay and it was doing £215 nicker with 3 days to go, i felt
sick as a parrot twice over and once more for goodluck when
i saw the prices of super tuff burners in good condition £150ish
anyway the bike i allways wanted was a skyway streetbeat
all my bikes had skyways they were the best imo,
but i never saw a complete skyway bike, anybody have one
or had one, i remember Carlo Griggs he was a factory
rider for skyway

Skyway Streetbeat is my dream oldskool BMX, and one day I WILL own one!
Back then I had a crappy BMX (Cant even remember the make )and a lad in the village got a brand new Streetbeat when they came out, it was a white frame and forks with everything on it in green.
He was the envy of the whole village (BMX'ers of course lol) and from that day onwards I have always wanted one!

Carlo Griggs is still involved in BMX and currently started http://www.properbikeco.com/. There are still a lot of the old school UK riders riding today if your interested in the old school scene check out http://www.radbmx.co.uk/index.php UK best old school BMX site this is actullay run by Billy Stuple the old Skyway rider. As for the Streetbeat you can pick the frame and forks up quite cheap as Skyway found a batch of raw ones a few years ago, you could probably pick one up for about £50-£60. I had one a few years ago but sold it on

as it wasnt really what I was looking for my holy grail was always the TA so two years later and £800 this is now my old school ridehope this helps Tony

my brother still has a raleigh burner that if my memory is correct
was a team or competition burner, it is blue and pearl white,
has a tange frame and forks (stamped made in japan)
its a teardrop frame
and blue skyway tuff 2's, it is really like this 25"th anniversary
bike raleigh has just brought out, exept his was one of the most expensive
burners you could buy in the 80's, god knows what a original is worth.
i have seen the new repro ones for £350 quid
my old stuff could buy house in bulgaria, its worth so much these days.

i like the skyway ta, we never had stuff like that in chester in the bike
shops, although my mate had a ammaco which i bought off him.
oh and my bro had a pk ripper
i had loads of bmx's at one point

so who remembers bmx beat with andy ruffle

Cressy was GT named after Gary Turner, seem to remember eddy
fiola had a yellow one and rode a qtr pipe

when i was 15 i was 6ft i neeeeeded a layback post just to stop
my knees banging the bars when i peddled, i remember the torker
Hutch the Bob Haro,we used green or orange Haro freestyle tyres.
mushroom discs, gt power disc quick release mx brakes
i paid Dave Quinn(the dave quinn who buillt proper race bikes, and manufactured his own bespoke race bikes) £55 pounds in 1987 to fit a ACS ROTOR to my
firebird, so i could spin the bars without the cables getting tied up.
when i see kids riding bmx bikes today i think
we did it better when i was a nipper
i had CW handle bars and some others with double top tube reynolds
cro molytubing that i would sit on and ride backwards, that used to
impress the old neighbours

Couple years ago I was out with Taryn and some friends celebrating the life of a friend who was killed in WTC. I was chatting with one of his mates about old school bikes and then he tells me that back home at his parents garage he has a couple of bikes. I ask what does he have... 85 PK Ripper, 86 Quadangle, Supergoose and a Hutch Trickstar! I'm like.. what are you going to do with them? do you want to sell them?? No, I really don't care he says.. there just in my parents garage, I'm not to bothered about selling them. He wouldn't tell me where his parents house was either

My holy grail of bicycles is the Hutch Trickstar!

ok so i wanted a freestyle bmx like the ones i had stolen or
the one i craved as a teenager, so i spotted this on ebay
thing was it was paypal only, i emailed the seller and he was trying
to change it for me to buy it now,and pay cash on collection.
i dont like sending money,as had money taken out of my bank
by a theif from nigeria

here it is, so near yet so far

check the bit where i promised to look after it

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...0650&rd=1&rd=1

the only thing that worries me about skway streetbeats is
these new old stock frames, what if they are copies????
maybe i should stick to what i Really no and get another DP FIREBIRD
Freestyler, they were made not far away from chester and my
mates brother knew the firm that powdercoated them.

cozzfather,
Mate your going to have to pay a lot more dosh for a DP FIREBIRD FREESTYLER than you are a streetbeat, you can pick up a complete streetbeat bike for the price of a FIREBIRD FREESTYLER frame & forks, Firebird Freestyler has become a very rare bike.
