Good enough to enjoy properly and not overly expensive. Very Good vfm

Ideally tho you want to buy from a local bike shop who can support you and help you set it all up and get some decent gloves/shorts/helmet etc.

So anything big branded in the £600 range would be ok for what you describe, but just check on here first!

don't you live around billericay? there are loads of good riding places in thorndon park less than 5 mins from there if you do decide to get a bike. evrything from jumps, singletrack and good old cross county routes.

most of the routes around there can be riden on a relativly low standard bike anyway and only needs a great bike when you want to go faster

What's that one of yours I tried and ForeignRS fell off trying to pull a radical wheelie?

That suspension was like riding a clown bike and the brakes were akin to someone trying to yank you off the fucking thing by the neck

And use BoXXer, he does the best deals

And he's gay.

Good bike. The only thing i dont like about them is that they have Hayes "sole" brakes on them, and only one piston on the caliper actuates, so they arent very powerful.

whatever bike you buy they seem to be sized up differently tho. not just the specialized. esp from seat post to headset.

i used to always get 14" or 16" frames with a good seat post as you can raise it if need be an when riding trails or going downhill you can lower the post and save your bollox if you need to bail off. riding trails on a hig frame is just dangerous imo as you dont get much room for error and you cant balance your weight around the bike like you can on a samaller frame. all depends tho what the bikes main function is gonna be for. mine was always downhill/4x/ dirt jumping

TBH mate, they are all prettu much the same. Trek and Spec are slightly different though. Trek being slightly bigger.

But its irrelevant, on a £500 bike thats not gunna be used for racing, etc.

Not really, its critical for me to have a good reach from saddle to bars without having too long a stem or too long a saddle to floor measurement as I have a long torso......usually i get advised to use a longer stem which ruins the handling and places too much pressure on my wrists......I would recommend everybody tries before they buy

after all some measure sizes as top tube length, some as toptube to bb on the angle of the seatpost, some as a vertical line from toptube to bb......etc etc

Too small is shit, to big is shit...it has to be right or you wont enjoy it

99% of women who try cycling and hate it only hate it because they dont have the right sized bikes and components and the right type of saddle etc....

Size matters

hehe

if thats what you think, thats cool.

BUT, i sell at least 20 bikes a week, including cheap shit, and you would be surprised at how many of the cheap giants fit people BETTER than more expensive bikes.

Most adjustments can be dialled in, by sliding the saddle, or like you say, changing the stem, raising the post, etc.

You know these Road bike "fit" programs that they have online? Well, there is a shop pretty close to us that does this bike fit thing, and you should see what people are riding around here.

Only saying what i know....
