I think the reg was set up to read something like "LXOO PEE" (Loopy?)
You're right, it was a turbo and did seem pretty quick - just wondered what power it was running and who owned it really?

The owner of the Elise is Andy from Yeovil Somerset. He works at Westland's with Phil 2400.

Engine is from an Audi TT with special roller bearing turbo fitted
(approx 340 BHP), Emerald ECU mapped by Dave Walker.

It's a quick car

As per Doug - Andy's car certainly does go well. R888s, well set up (as in fancy multiway adjusted by a proper suspension place) Lotus suspension, and 320 odd bhp in a lightweight car. I've only been out with him once, but he doesn't even drive it hard or even close to 10/10ths - there's another few seconds a lap in that car easily.

He was running 1:24s consistently, which is a couple opf seconds faster than the last time he was there. Think he'll get quicker and quicker the more track time he gets in.

Some other pics:

You've got good eye sight!

Andy has written / is writing a manual for the conversion. Some of the basics are straight forward, but it has had SO much one off fabrication - a lot by my lodger Phill2400 off here.

I'll see what info he can spill on it - I'd love something similar if he'll help build it, will ask him and let ya know!

It gets loads of attention at shows when people realise what is under the bonnet/boot lid.

Rather cool bits of kit those Audi-Powered Elises.

Be interesting to know what it takes to make them SIB.

Default Engine pics of the Elise

Some more piccies I've gug out of the depths of my hard drive:

Not spoken to him yet, but will keep this post updated.

I remember hearing about someone else they know with an Exige with an Audi RS4 (IIRC) engine - think V8 or turbos or both! Will see if they have pics of that too.

Last time my Cossie was at Combe, running 470bhp, my ass was handed to me by a Blue/ Purple Elise with Audi TT lump. Down the straight

Given my car died a lap later with a buggered exhaust valve seat it wasn't running right, but it was going well till he went past!

An Exige with this engine would be awesome

It's my car !!

It started off in life as a 118BHP std S1.

I converted the Engine nearly two yrs ago, I installed a 1.8T TT motor mated to a Seat Leon gbox (6 speed). I ran the std turbo KKK K04 with 250BHP for a year with no problems - I also wrote the manual of how to do it, over 120 pages fully illustrated.

Having met a bloke who is mad about the Garett Turbo (Phil) I was convinced to put a GT28RS trubo on it. Phil fabricated many of the Intake and charge pipes and heat shielding for me - cheers Mucker.

The oil and coolant pipes were made locally and the Exhaust was custom mage with V Band flange mated to 3" pipe.

I'm running 660cc injectors and the car was fully mapped at Emerald. The engine is totally std (internals) therefore the revs were kept sensible 6200rpm redline (soft cut limiter). The car spent 4 hours on the rolling road mapped by Dave and put out a mild 320BHP and 285ft/lb torque.

The car is reliable, any more power means more revs and boost + uprated con rods etc........... it will cost me £2500 to get 30BHP+ more, is it worth it ? the car's awesome as it is. I drove it to the ring and back this year and all's that went wrong with it was a blown indicator bulb !!

As SiB said I don't drive the car on the limit (the rev limiter is there for a reason) and I'm not the best driver in the world, but It felt comfortable at Combe last week.

Glad people liked it - thanks for the track day, it's the best on I've ever done.

Andy - I absolutely love this car. It's everything I'd want in a small little chuckable car but with the power that the Elise wants.

When you say you wrote the manual, what are the most major bits of work? Engine mounts? Any major welding involved? Rough cost at std engine level?

I really could fancy a crack at this if an Elise came up cheap enough....

No it's not on line.

I wrote the manual for a chap called Bernard Scouse - www.autoteknix.co.uk (or something like that) - he is the founder and inventor of such an idea, so he owns the rights to the manual (as he paid me to do it), I wrote it for his Export customers.

He was building the cars out of his back yard (single garage) I asked him if he would do me the conversion (£10K buys you 300BHP), as we got talking he realised that I was quite capable (Chartered Engineer) and asked me if I wanted to have a go.

I asked him if he had a manual and he said no but could I write one, he basically supplied me with

ECU - Emerald
Engine mounts
drive shafts
Intercooler
Gear change mechanism
Intake
Exhaust downpipe

He asked me to have a crack at it and to phone him when I got stuck, 4 weeks later I phoned him and told him it was ready to start.

No welding ! just a tadge filing required.... other than that it goes straight in !! turn the key for an instant 250BHP out of the box.

For the 300BHP + conversion I did this more or less on my own with Phils fabrication skills........easy!

There are about 15 or so conversions in the Country - mine is the only Garett GT28 Conversion, the others use the IHI VF34 turbo mounted to a Jabbasport manifold...........I could have gone this route but I just wanted to do something different off my own back.

Personally I think my installation is better thought out from a heat point of view.

Now I'm not too sure Bernard still does the conversions from home, he gets a Company in Daventry to do the conversions for him, Steve Gugleiami is the owner. He has got a 350BHP Elise and he won the GP Turner cup in it and he was up against 800 -900BHP Evo's and still wipped their asses. He also came 3rd in the drifting championships.

He now does the conversions, but I know that the price has increased ! I think your looking at £14K for a 300BHP conversion.

Personally - if you can get the bits, it's quite easy.....the only hard thing is the gear change linkage mechanism, everything else is off the shelf.

Now any of you FORD boys thinking of jumping ship - come down and I'll give you a test drive..............

What would be interesting, would be to put a Cossy motor in mated to a 2WD gbox (400BHP ?) now I know that's never been done before !!!!!

Now that's gota be worth a try !

Sean is building me an Audi Turbo Elise Martin will be getting involved as well even though he does no know yet hahahah

Gonna be sooo much fun. Sean already has one.... as well as his Exige!

Mine will be Widebodied using the Maddogmotorsport kit. Will look like this when done.

Fat looking yet still a droptop unlike those nasty Exiges!!! Can't wait!!!

Lightweight, amazing fun to drive... and FAST

Reyland will be doing these conversions now, no doubt his will be BETTER and CHEAPER than the ones on offer at moment

Give him a bell if you want one done
