i have rs 7 spoke diamond cut alloys in 7.5 " width and 205/40/17 are at full stretch and the rim protrudes,so i would say you need 215/40/17

yes it is,but when i say the rim protrudes,i mean it protrudes in front of tyre wall making it look like the tyres are too small for the rims.

i think it depends on the make of tyre, some seem wider than others with the same size.

i ran 205/45/17's toyo proxies and another make before that, though can't remember who the car was a 4x4 and lowered, i think the 215's would have rubbed.

my mate had the same size but his were stretched and the rim stuck out.

generally they do, but certain manufactures do seem to be a bit wider and they cover the rim, but most don't and it is so easy to catch the rim
no matter how carefull you are.

My diamond cut 7 spokes with 205/40 are not like the previous photo...im running goodyear eagle f1's and they are about 5mm back from the rim face.
