I'm sure it does exist, or we are at least on the way to it. Only problem is it's probably buried way under Area 51 or the like, and not to be seen in our lifetimes. Nazi scientists were developing "UFO's" during the 40's, god knows what can be done now.

Cool post.
I dont agree with you at all, to visit places millions of light years away would take an absolutely gargantuan breakthrough in technology and I dont believe that we are anywhere even close to it.

And that is if its even possible at all, which its perfectly probably it simply isnt!
what we need to invent is a type of multiverse re-traction.. kind of black hole theory with an actual out come insted of death. if we could just control how we did things... which will never happen in our human race lifetime.... we could in theory go to any part of any given multiverse at any time... i mean lets face it, we have allready invented a type of time travel... see new scientist mag for that one lol.. as far as being an "adavanced" race.. all we really know how to do is SURVIVE
thats not the string theory by any chance is it?

i know NASA have concepts for a "light Sail" that can and will reach the speed of light with no power at all... the problems occur when you realise you cant actually slow down easy enough plus no computer on the globe can do enough calculations to cope with the speed of the aircraft... then momentum comes into play - with many millions of particles "floating" in space, if it were to hit one (say the size of a Tin Can) then it would merely rip through the vehicle... there isnt a substance strong enough to cope with impacts of that magnitude...

well, not quite

apparently, the last measurement of the universe was along the lines of it being at least 10x83 light years across

now, if you consider that light travels 186,000 miles a second
then you multiply that by the amount of seconds in a year to give you the distance traveld by light in one year, putting another 83 zero's behind it tends to give you a bit of a headache (the answer is 31,536,000 seconds, but the calculater doesn't go any further than that so the computer says 5,865,696,000,000 miles so it's a lot to start with before you put 83 zero's behind it )

but i also get a copy of the new scientist posted through the letterbox every week so perhaps some of the info in there is sinking in
dont remember reading that one but im sure it can only be a caluculated guess at best, as we really dont know how big it actually is and some theorists say, you will end up where you started as the multi-verse is infinate but only to come full circle.

its measured through perspective i believe... so what you would see from 2 different planets, then its triangulated or something i do know it has alot to do with the speed of light!... i did do it for my a-level physics... but i have forgotten... lol...

Im not sure I agree with the concept of it being "infinate", certainly not in terms of the numbers of planets and stars etc, its a big fucking number no doubt, but im not sure its infinate.
So what would you say is at the end of the universe, some kind of full circle

This isn't anything to do with the Chicago airport sighting last year? Apparently over a dozen people saw it.

The official line was, it was "it was a weather phenomenon".

Sure, just over Gate 17.

Chip

I think I can remember recently a BBC programm where it was discovered that all solar systems have a Black Hole at their centre.

Can anyone else remember a recent program?

Someone even suggested that our solar system is shrinking, eventually to 'disappear' into the black hole. It's going to take a very, very long time however.

sorry can't remember anymore about the program.

Everything ive seen says that our universe is actually still expanding, eventually to end in a cold nothingness, as its gone past the point at which gravity can pull it back together, but obviously the reality is that basically no one has a fucking clue, lol

Ironically the whole case for creation seems to be centred around there not being enough evidence against it, there still isnt ANY evidence for it.

no... thats what I meant... what is the "void". Whats there before the universe expands into it? is there another universe next door getting squished etc?

If there is another life form out there. It as far as I know, does not have technology more advanced than ours.

If they were able to travel at the speed of light, or faster.. they would have been able to achieve a lot of other things apart from visiting us. For instance, the scanning of planets like we scan our bodies, but for life forms + communication with us. I dislike it when people say that they maybe cannot interact or communicate with us due to a massive gap in our technology or language etc. All life and non(if moving) forms send out a radio wave, surely they would have known about this technology to communicate before visiting? As for the language, Humans, if enough time is spent in the presence of a language can pick up on what it means and communicate.

That or we are such a small life-form it doesn't matter.

Yet I do not believe that we can be the only planet in the right place at the right time.. Just doesn't add up.

Anyway, I could go on forever.

All i know is that I bet whatever technology we create to get us there will be named a warp drive. (no i'm not a star trek geek)

that was horizon... was shown some time ago aswell... it put the theory that the universe wasnt created by a big bang, but by a large mass imploding, hence forming the formation of stars that you see in a typical universe!

the universe has been seen to still be expanding, but is slowing down, this promotes the theory that it was created by a bang! the way they find out which way it is going is by blue and red shift... this is where the colour of a planet is altered by its movement either away, or towards...

red = towards as shorter wave length
blue = away as longer wave length

the idea is that the universe is expanding from a central point i.e. where the bang happened then over time it is slowing down due to a strong gravitaional pull until it starts to shrink again back into a small mass...

theory suggest that it will either become another star, or just turn into a black hole... the question is, where does a black hole lead?

From what Hawkins says, it doesn't lead anywhere but is a spectacle of the end of time itself..

To be honest, for our underdeveloped brains its too much to understand at the best of times.. Let alone an under-educated person like myself.

the universe will only expand so far, then chuck norris will tell it to "turn around and go back whare it came from!!"

on a serious note i cant see a problem with god creating things as its not proven either way,its on such a vast scale that anything is possible!

i think most peaple discount the god thing due to all the nutters on the planet carying things out in his name.

as intelegent life we have to know how it started and whare it ends, that is a good thing.for me i think as you get to the end and open the door you are opening the door you came in at the start, just my own theory

if you think that for every grain of sand in the world there is a million stars with there own planets you would have to be very niave to think we were alone.

I hate the thought that amazing things like finding other living planets will happen beyond my lifetime

We'll be living on Mars within 30 years tho!

I think that there has to be other life, especially seeing as it all begins with chemical reactions. Only thing is, are there other planets with oxygen?

Oh the naive Humans.

Its like anything, if I were the real Jesus Christ, I would be locked up in a mental hospital for insanity.

You cannot win and I believe that is our major set back. If things are true, we cannot explain, we will dismiss them. If things aren't true because of fact, we will dismiss them.

but does life need to survive on oxygen? it could cope to live off other substances couldn't it? human limitations are tailored to our surroundings - i.e. earth... so another species could theoretically live on neptune in the liquid methane!

Oh well..
im just playing devils advocate... but it could be seen to be arrogant to believe we are the most advanced race in the universe... unexplained things happen, and people try to get a rational explination from what they know... so thats why things get dismissed... but i do know what you mean about the jesus christ thing... if you were to claim to be something, then you would be shot down...

Makes it even less likely we will ever interact with those other beings if they live in such vastly different surroundings of course!
