Easy peeps,
Does anyone know the average spring rates for CoilOver's ? ? ? Gaz, AVO or anyother for a road spec kit ?
Mainly front rates I'm after but rears would be handy to know too !
Cheers in advance.

JB, you would have thought that with the amount of serious Cossie guys into properly set-up cars on here, that someone would be able to answer your question.
Sorry I can't help!!

Spring rates are entirely down to the damping rates of the shock absorber and also how you want the car to handle.
Having seen how you drive your car, I would suggest that you start with 325-350lb front springs and 150lb rears. This is based on you having AVO dampers. 200lb will be WAY To hard and cause the car to slide everywhere.

Christian, you know it man ! ! !
Thanks for the answer Dave, much appreciated !
Pete cheers for the offer fella !
Mike, I've jus ordered 325 for the front, but their LEDA on rear hence 2 1/2" springs but do have some travel in them now
Only things that gave before were the tyres when the jumped up & down on the car !
The back will slide everywhere ? Is that a bad thing ?
lol
Thank you VERY much for the info tho, can you get LEDA springs Mike ?

That is what they come with from the factory and in my opinion (having had this set up on my own car), the rears are too hard and the fronts too soft
LEDA do not make springs, they have them made to their spec by outside companies. Personally, I use Eibach (which is one of the companies that they also use). Most companies that do 2ź" springs, also do 2˝".
If you go too hard on the rear, then you will not get any traction due to there being insufficient weight transfer. On track, 200lb is still a little too hard even (as an example, Martin's Escort runs 150s on the back!) and with my 170s, I have to have the damping on the lowest setting on the road and it is still fractionally too stiff (but I can live with it). Bearing in mind your car is 100kg lighter than mine, there is no need to go so stiff.

I see what your sayin & it makes sence ! ! !
Not sure the poundage on the rear at them mo, but I have got travel now !
Was thinkin bout 180's for the rear but she's stripped out & I cut the spare wheel well out too so quite light ! Might try get 150 lb then ! Thank you again Mike !
I ordered the fronts from Rally Design, they don't do 2 1/2" springs !
Anywhere else @ reasonable money for them ? Rally Design was Ł15 each !
Cheers Mike

Unfotunately just like nearly every single suspension manufacturer, they have not tested these dampers or spring rates on every single type of car that they sell a kit for, and just give it their "best guess"
. Obviously sometimes they get it nearly right, but due to the way the rear trailing arm on a Sierra acts on the spring, they have gone too hard (obviously basing their calculations on the original spring rates). However, you have to understand, that by moving the spring further out, it doesn't need to be so hard due to the increased leverage. When I get my car back on the road (which should be the end of this month), I'll take you out and you can see the difference in ride quality between mine and yours
