Plans to ban cars older than 10years from our roads
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Banning/restricting cars over 10yrs old. This is on the .gov website too.
"Several EU proposals across the years are dangerous to the classic car movement. One that has been under consideration is to ban the use of cars older than 10 years. Similarly, Edinburgh City Council is considering the banning of cars over 15 years old from the town centre. These, and similar, proposals directly threaten the classic car movement, and encourage the manufacture of new cars, with the attendent environmental issues of sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, distriuting and scrapping the spiralling supply of new vehicles."
You'll be banned from using the roads and only allowed to take the vehicle out having obtained PRIOR consent from your local council.. I.e youd have to plan your route in advance and inform the council for approval who may then decline the whole thing or certain aspects like perhaps if you wish to pass through a city centre etc

my uncle with a gordon keeble - spend a fortune on - worth loads - if this went through then it would practically bring the re-sale value to zero!

i agree with restricting older cars on the road,,, some cars you see driving about are shockingly SHIT, personally i think they should have an MOT every 6 months to start off

I still have not had the link back after signing it.
Makes me laugh when people say I will still drive if this came in, and they will have to find and catch them.
The resources for the gov to do what they want are limitless, they would catch you, crush your car, put you in prison etc, if they want end of.

Once again, I don't think this will happen due to the fact that the government will lose too much cash in lost tax.
Can't use your car for work - can't work - unemployed - no paying tax.

Something will need to be done especially with emissions. Whilst the UK isnt renowned for gas guzzelling machines that the US and Oz have, there is little restriction apart from once a year for your MOT.
Over here, I am restricted on the number of intake mods I can have (1). Because I have an intercooler as stock, I can add an air filter. I cannot legally alter the ECU or anything that alters the emissions from stock.
I know the US has restrictions too and this is one of the things I do miss about the UK in its current state. If my car is below 100mm or is suspected of being modified, I can receive a letter in the mail asking me to present it for an emissions test.
Oz is superb, but laws like this really suck for a modified car enthusiast.

Well seeing as people getting started in life these days are expected to pay £500+ just to rent a poxy box room in a city, and bread has gone up from 80p to over a quid in the last year despite inflation being quoted as about 1.5%, I'm sure lumping the increased costs of a newer car on them won't make too much difference
