Default FAO engine heads...

Are people who knows a bit about them....

Its a general question about my Honda engine. Say if VTEC was engaged 100% of the time would it increase the power of the engine? Or is there a reason it would'nt? Just kinda interest to know

no it would have the same top end figure, but the figures will be lower, lower down in the rev range

It'd be just like a car with high lift cams ie no bottom end grunt and lumpy on idle.

On some VTEC engines it can be beneficial to midrange power if the 2nd cam profile is set to come in a bit earlier (ie "my VTEC just kicked in, yo" ), but if it was like it all the time, it would have even suckier low down power than it currently has, and thatd be really really bad, instead of just bad.

Basically rhys it switches from a cam profile to give low end torque and power to one designed to give top end power and torque...basically like having two cams!

Which is why its generally pointless to move the changeover point like some people seem obsessed with doing as the ecu calculates about 100 times a second which cam profile will be giving you the best performance!

Of course this is still crude compared to a car that could have electronically controlled valves, needing no cams and having mappable cam timing throughout the rev range

The lad who bought my old DC2 ITR fitted an Apexi controller and then went o get it set up on the rollers. It turned out it gave the best performance went left at the standard change over point.
