Default xr2i rev limit?

hi everyone!! first post on here

ive got a G reg xr2i, i just wondered if the rev-limiter is supposed to cut-in at just below 5000rpm, its more like 4800rpm? it seems to make it quite short legged?

no its not

sure revcounter is working ok?

also you might be in limp home mode, get qa gunstons fault code reader plugged in and check for faultcodes

cool ill check that out, as im new to the xr2i my knowledge is pretty limited, i take it that if there is a fault with the ecu/sensors then there isnt a dashboard light to indicate this, cant guarantee that the rev counter is working, it will hit the rev limter at about 60 in third (i think) it feels quite breathless

should do 60 in 2nd mate...

no dash light... you buy the code reader witha built in LED... theyre about a tenner from halfords (made by gunstons)

insuruction manual is simple enuf

if no, take it toa ford garage n get them to put it on the startester n check for faults... be warned tho they normally charge a lot of money (complete ripoff imho)

fingers crossed for the gunsons then!!! mine at present would bottom out at 40 in second, hope this problem is easily solved, if theres a fault then hopefully it will explain the poor fuel ecomony and rough idle

does the limp home mode indicate that on of the 'important' sensors is at fault or any of the sensors are at fault

not sure TBH

should only be an important sensor failing... ie one that that its been told that can fuck your car up if it does fail

limp home mode is normally indicated by the fuel pump running perminantly when you prime it- instaed of priming for 3 seconds, it just runs constantly!

Having had a tweeked XR2i 8v until very recently I can say it sounds like you have problems.

I beleive the rev limiter should cut in at about 6200rpm and you should pull just shy of 60mph in 2nd gear. If you are in doubt about tackling this sort of thing you may be better off booking it in with a specialist to sort as they will have the equipment to diagnose your problem(s). What area are you in as PassionFord has people all over the country so wherever you are somebody on here is bound to be able to recomend you a company that will help you and not rip you off.

if you not got a faut code reader... just unplug the ECU for about a minute n put it back in

or disconnect the battery

but it'll probably go straight back in as soon as it detects the fault again (assuming you havent fixed the problem)

I beleive (although not 100%) reset can only be achieved once the fault has been rectified. It really needs looking over by somebody who knows what's what.

you need a gunstons fault finder- you can then rest the ecu after doing the dianostic tests- go for a drive, and see if the same error codes are in the KAM!- should help to narrow down the problem!

still check it with the fault code reader...

do ignition on test and see what codes are in the KAM (the 2nd set of codes)

then reset KAM, take it for a drive (make sure to hit this limiter) and check again
