Default Mullit Big Tooth Striaght Cut Gear kit for the T5 RWD ?

Hi Peeps

would any of you RWD people be intrested in Mullit syncromesh Big tooth T5 straight cut gear kit for your cos ???

reasons i ask because i have spoken to the developer and he said if there is enough intrest he would be able to start making a few kits

I was thinking of getting 5 kits done to start off with , the gears will be made from the same material as the current Mullit MT75 big tooth gears

the gears will be well strong

there will be options aswell at some point like close ratio kit not just yet tho lets see how well these 5 kits kick off first

there will be option for uprated mainshaft made in the same matrial as the gears

made be option lower 4/5% 5th gear

if anyone is intrested please reply on here

cheers marco

Hi Tim

well the syncros are not the best in the world they dont like fast gear changes either but we can get around that because there better syncros out there now for this box and to be honest the cossie T5 is the weakest T5 out there is only rated @ 300ft lbs +20%

saying that once you go over 450bhp their life span is on borrow time they will let go normaly taking out 3rd gear or something esle .selctor forks are not great eith in the T5 but i can get all of them made no problem

i recon this kit will with stand 700+bhp no problem

it just something i was thinking about for the peeps running 500+bhp thats was all

marco would the forks be part of the kit then >?

or would this be the gears are good enough for 700bhp but the rest of it will still fail ?

would it not be better to look at a syncros option too then as that is the main part for most people i would belive and would be a cheeper option and get to a bigger audience

Hit the nail on the head for me there Ginge, supplying and fitting of uprated syncros and selector forks is defo something i would look at.

abs what was diagnosed when you took the box out though mate ?

was there a reason why it happened as generally the syncro fails before and then when you use the fucked box cause it still works theres other issues if that makes sence

bit like driving with the oil light on,,, car runs so you drive to the garage,,,, engine seizes and so you THEN walk to the garage

hi ginge

the forks would not be part of the kit ,that would be optional extra

as for the rest of the box taking 700 bhp i dont see why not the mainshafts are pretty good but they are all getting old now

were are looking at syscros/baulk rings anyway

we do the standard overhaul T5 anyway that includes everything except mainshaft/gears forks ect all the rest is changed

trust me i have , so has alot of people who have had over 500bhp

karl norris blew 3 boxes taking out 3rd gear in all of them

like i said the cossy t5 is the weakest T5 on the market the TVR T5 is better but it has bigger mainshatft

it's not straight forward fit in to the cos you have to change the clutch and the rear propshaft

you wont blow a cossie t5 running 330bhp ect it's only when you go over 400+ then it takes so much then dies

see thats my oil light theory taken to the test

oil light was on ( whine),,, was on way to petrol station to get some ( driving about with whine)

engine seized and fucked engine,, blames shitty vauxhall for crap engines ( blames main shaft for not being able to take power)

marco good luck,, just thought i would add some points you already knew but just incase if you get what i mean

syncro's and forks should be done before any cog is even looked at imo

exactly that and it's slighly shorter box

you will have to get center part of the ckutch done and you have to mod the rear prop as the splines are alot bigger

and yes the TVR is rated at 400ft lbs it is strong t5

Great to see this development happening, but I must confess that personally I would probably go T56 in my car if I was going to go for big power.

Having a direct replacement option sounds good though, and especially for cars people dont want to have to take anlge grinder to in order to fit a box!

cheers lads Chip/Brom

this box will just be plug and play no messing about

all the rest of the of boxes like TKO/T56 to much messing about to make fit

it's ok if you can do all of that yourself

this product will be just like the Mullit MT75 big tooth fit it in yourself no messing about thats the good thing about it and will with handle mega bhp/torque they wont be that noisey either :i recon the gears will withstand 800 ftlbs of torque easy top:

marco

p.s chip i had a T56 and sold it

This is Andy's 3rd gear from his T5 Quaife big tooth gearbox from Bernies, all gears shot-peened. Not caused by using the gearbox to slow down - was done on the acceleration side.

The gearbox has only done The Daddy Thrash, 2 trackdays and twice up the Pod.

Every tooth is chewed on one cog and the other is scored and just starting to crack

sir it will alway be a 2nd hand box thats worn t56 box is shit unless you spend 3 k on proper kit aint worth it for 6 gears
if it same as 4x4 box your going to be looking around 3 grand for the unbuilt kit where as the tko is half that price also has a 3 rail selector so no more shitty gearchanges and its a brand new gearbox and comes with a pro 5 billet shifter
clutch need to be changed but hey who fits a new box with out a new clutch as for prop its £100 bell housing mods are simple

all the bernie boxes that failed i would never have one i think quaife had its day with the 4x4 boxes as the mullit box is the way forward look at dougs box been back to bernies more times than bernie has a delivery
at least doug seen the light and went for the mullet !!!!!!!!!

what is the price of a t56 and what mods are actually needed to get it to fit ?

just being nosey as a off the shelf box is usually the way forward imo rather than gear kits made in batches of 5 at a time,,,,, cause where will you be in 7 years time ?

car companys will be making gearbox spares for 10 years after they stop production !

marco said to me t56 boxes fetch £1500 2nd hand but are usless as 6 gear normally 0.5 overdrive !!!!!!!!
so you only using 5 gears
for a t56 you need a covensoin plate £200,clutch plate£180,prop mods £100 so thats around £2000

a brand new tko modded is the same if not a little less as £100 bellhousing mod or get it done by a mate for nothing its easy

i dont rember how much the full t5 kit is new off bernie is

there you go then get a 2nd hand t5 box with new gears £1880
or you can get a brand new tko £1500 then mods £200 not including the clutch plate as i said new box it makes sense to fit a clutch plate to the t5 while its out anyway

its a far superior box fast change due to the 3 rail selector

Cossie T5 clutch spline count is the same as the TVR T5 V8 box
The only other diffo that may matter other then the prop splines being bigger, gear lever positioning being moved forwards n the main rear mounting bolt spacing is the release bearing carrier being longer and wider? or was it shorter n narrower lol.
Oh and I'm sure the splines are longer on one of the boxes.
Cant rem now
