Default OUR MALDIVES HONEYMOON

well the wedding went really well ,

the weather was great! which was lucky

Guess who? a few P/F regulars

We couldn’t resist!!

So we then jetted off on honeymoon!

We were on Meeru Island in the Maldives for two glorious weeks, here are some of our highlights:

On our first day we went for a walk to look at our new surroundings. I spotted some black tip reef sharks and stingrays swimming just inches away from the beach so naturally I jumped in!! Soon I had the sharks, which were about 12-18 inches long swimming around my legs. I thought they were quite big until I heard they could grow up to about six foot long!!

We also saw some of the other wildlife on the island for example Lizards, Gecko’s and fruit bats to name a few. The Gecko’s mostly lived in our bathroom as it was open air.

We generally spent the first couple of days trying to get over our jet lag and getting used to the time difference, they are four hours ahead of us so we had to get up for breakfast at 5am UK time!!!

The weather was incredible, it was 90% humidity and amazingly hot.

On one of our first days on the island we decided to walk around its perimeter, it took us 35mins to walk around and unfortunately we got burnt to a crisp even though we were absolutely plastered in factor 25, we ended up having to buy factor 50 just to protect ourselves!!

Just after breakfast was low tide so every morning apart from the ones we over slept we would walk out to the house reef about twenty-five meters away from the shore line but we would be only waist deep in water. The reef was amazing, every time you put your head under the water you would see something different. The colour of the fish was incredible. I made friends with one little fish who liked me so much he swam into my pocket on several occasions.

On one of our swimming trips to the reef we saw a Moray Eel which I thought was brill but Nik didn’t as she ran crying out of the water!!

Another scary moment was when Nik and I were snorkelling along the reef about six inches under the water when we both looked straight ahead we noticed a five foot long shark heading straight towards us at warp speed. Within a matter of seconds, Nik and I looked at each other, looked back at the shark and then we both screamed through our snorkels. The shark wasn’t bothered, he just swam straight past us. There never has been a shark attack but it is quite worrying when you see one heading straight towards you.

We soon learnt to stay out of their way and they stayed out of ours. However by the end of the holiday we were starting to look for the sharks just to watch them swim past.

One night we went Night Fishing. We caught the boat and headed out to sea where we were given a crabbing line each and a lump of tuna and told to get on with it. I didn’t catch bugger all but Nik caught a Jack Fish. Other fish caught during the evening were a Red Snapper and a Barracuda.

We had a brilliant waiter on the island called Didi, you get to know your waiter quite well as he serves you for breakfast, lunch and tea every day and one evening we arrived in the restaurant as usual and he asked us to follow him. We followed him out of the restaurant and he led us down to the shoreline where he had set up a table for us, next to the sea and under the stars.

The table was decorated with Samba and Jasmine flowers, candles and beautiful napkins. It made us feel very special. Unfortunately we have no pictures of this as it was surprise and I didn’t take the camera to dinner with me.

The rooms are cleaned twice a day and again we had a great room boy. One afternoon we arrived back in our room to see that our bed had been decorated with flowers, it was a real work of art. It was a shame that it had to be destroyed before we could go to bed, but luckily we did have the camera this time.

Our main trip off the island was on the love boat cruise. It was a nine hour cruise on a 23 meter boat. On the way out we saw some flying fish and a pack of dolphins also joined us, jumping around the front of the boat. We got some amazing footage on the video camera of the dolphins playing about in the water. After several snorkelling trips we were heading back to Meeru when we saw a glimpse of a Loggerhead Turtle, this was something we had both really wanted to see.

I managed to do a spot of advertising on the beach for a certain company.

The swimming pool on the island was cooler than the sea and they even serve you beer whilst you are in there.

In the second week the rainy season started and OMG did it rain!!!!! It rained so much that the capital Male’ flooded but within a hour everything was dry again and it was back to over 100 degrees!!

One night we did a sunset cruise, the sunsets were amazing nothing like we get in this country.

Here are a few more pictures of our time on Meeru. We really advise anyone thinking of going to go, it is such a beautiful place, like no other I have ever experienced and I doubt I will ever top this one.

Mr and Mrs JTECHSAFF

PS I will try and find the dolphin video later

we got a speed boat transfer,

and were at the Meeru island resort, only one resort per island over there as the islands are so small

stu thought you would like it!

i dont think many other people knew what i was on about though as i did get a few odd comments

Meeru island is one of the best to visit ,still quite natural ,and one of the larger islands ,it takes 35 mins to walk around it

Nice one Congratulations guys

Two pieces of advice for all those who are tempted to go to the maldives.

1. Do it as soon as you can
2. Be prepared to not want to go anywhere else afterwards

Been five times with mrsFrog, and every holiday we've had since hasn't been anywhere near in terms of relaxation, beauty, etc...

You've been warned

I thought I recognised the bar and the reception area. That’s where my wife and I went for a holiday a few years back. Drank loads of Tiger Beer. Great place Meeru.

we wre worried when we left because all reports said it was raining and thundering every day, but in reality it rained twice, and only for an hour, and we were in the middle of the rain season

Weather is getting better at this time of the year stu, end of monsoon season, real good.
We usually go in nov/dec before xmas but september should be fine.

I can highly recommend Kuredu (www.kuredu.com), get a sangu villa and a seaplane transfer unless you enjoy 6 hours on a boat and you won't be disappointed

Note: The boat trip is sort of worthwhile, we've never done it but sometimes you get dolphins swimming with the boat which you can't experience from a sea plane Sea plane gives you an average of an extra 10 hours on the island all in though...

Congrats mate

I cant wait to go there now as it looks fantastic! 4 weeks today and we'll be almost on the plane!

Were you all inclusive? If so how much cash did you take/spend there if you dont mind? I cant see how we need much other than for diving which i'll pay by card.

What do you tip the staff? And is it american $??

We're in a jacuzzi beach villa on week 1 and then a water villa week 2 as they were too booked up to saty in jacuzzi the whole trip

What do things like the cruise cost?

chop

we were all inclusive ,but some things are not inclusive as they have been on other holidays ive been on,

i think we spent about Ł300 on other bits and pieces while we were there.
the cruises are various prices, if you are all inclusive they give you a night fishing trip ,and a sunset cruise(dolphins!) for free,
the 9 hour cruise was Ł90 each i think, bit was all inclusive and well worth it!
