Default EFi XR3i Cabby fuel relay question (help please)

I've got an EFi XR3i Cabby that keeps blowing the fuel pump fuse but only when going up hills, I've noticed that the pink fuel pump relay under the dashboard is going nuts lately and clicking like mad.

Could the relay be causing the fuse to blow if it's faulty.

P.S. is the pink relay the same as the ERST 1.

Cheers

series 1 rst used a different relay

pink relays are found on s2 rst and mfi xr3i

if yours is a mk4 efi then the relay should be a small yellow one

Now i'm really confused, Just been out for a run after changing the pink relay (and it started going nuts again) and it run fine and been out in it for 10mins, When i got back i pulled the pink relay out when the car was running and it just kept running, I found a yellow relay near by that was warm to touch so though i'd pull that out as well and the car cut out It's got both for some reason, somethings a bit iffy, why would it have both????

The pink relay was in a purpley/blueish colour holder. There was defo power to the pink relay as it clicks.

Get some pics of the offending relays and that bit of your loom.

It shouldn't have a pink relay, it should be 2 yellow relays.

diagram is WRONG mate im afraid to say

the power to from the main live on the fuel pump relay should be set that it turns on the ECU relay swtich feed to turn on the ecu's main live if that makes sence

the reason for this is that if theres a fuel pump wired break then the ecu will also be turned off

this is how ford wired them im

it WORKS but is not the correct way

Ginge, I did that after picking apart a fiesta turbo loom and finding out where each bastard wire went

And trust me, thats how the Fiesta EFi was plumbed in

ive got the ACTUALY FORD etis wiring diagram,,,, i KNOW how its wired in

thats the CORRECT way to wire it in

thats how they are ALL wired in

the way you do it WORKS but its not the correct way,,,, the only reason why i know this was i was looking at getting the info for "rst in progress" for his car as he had issues and i noticed it done that way and thought " christ thats cleaver,,, never thought of that"

so its NOT the correct way im afraid,, you made a mistake

i know this is gonna sound rude but if you dont know about wiring LEAVE IT ALONE

when i was helping rst in progress the guy has NO clue about wires and was joining based on colours and just didnt register what i was telling him to do

if you dont know,, just leave it alone as its one of them subjects that hard to explain verbally but piss easy to do once you get what your looking at

or actually ripp out the loom and rewire it with the dummys guide to EFI conversions that rab posted as its fucking spot bollock on and safe to get the car running and its got pictures and colours and any idiot could follow that one

seriously if there the worry it was done wrong start again and its easier with wiring to take it all out and restart than fault finding a problem

so thats the BEST thing you can do

well

when you convert to efi

you disregard the fuel pump relay (pink) as you need to wire in the efi one

also you need to wire in a igntion relay aswell

as i thought you had replaced the whole car loom to a xr3i one not just the engine loom

This is exactly what I did on my XR2. The wiring was, well, crappy.....

So I binned the lot and started again. And made that... Up there

Even if Ginge thinks it's wrong.

remove the pink one

ist not needed

the yelow relay is yoru fuel pump one or your igntion one of teh yellow relays is one of them

also check that wiring thats been messed with

with the yellow insulation tape round

also the one with teh pink relay in i think should be the relay for your heated screen

do you have a multimeter aswell?

if so lift your back seat up and the wiring going to the pump and find the thick black/red trace wire

and do a continutiy test from that wire to the wires on teh relay holders and see wich one buzzes, as this will tell you which one is your fuel pump

The wire with the yellow tape on was bare and looks like it may have been touching earth some were, Since i put the yellow tape on it's been fine, just been out in it for an hour and all ok

Looks like some one had disconnect an old alarm to bypass it.
