Mini Cooper S
Thinking of one of these as the next car, I want somthing reliable, fairly cheap but still a bit quick?
Anyone had/got one of these? What do you reckon?
Or are they just little gay hairdressers cars??

standard ones aint much cop really nowhere near the performance of say a civic type-r or focus rs etc, with the 210bhp add ons they shift though. If it was my money i'd be buying a dc2 integra type-r. Better all round car imo which includes more room for 4 people and a bigger boot etc

eugh so fucking common!
unlike the 3series beemer its not due to being so good (which im not saying its not!!) but because people like to think they are a fashion accessory when they really arent!
i commonly see 2 or 3 at the same time on any road and they are just a joke now, its the whole "look at me im a fun, quirky sort of person i have a mini! no really i am, look a mini! come back. please?"
thats the impression i get of them anyway lol.
obviously not ALL owners are like that, just the majority

I used to hate them but they're definately growing on me, had a ride in a cooper s and was quite impressed with how nippy it was.

well the cooper s is 174 bhp 0-60 in 7.1s - although this is never gonna compete with a 500bhp cossie, it's more than enough for me at the minute. Since I've sold my ST24 i've been driving a 1.1 206 so anything will be better than that.

My sister has a got a ONE and I've been in a S when they first came out.
Great fun little cars to me, alot better looking and bulit then most small cars around I think.
Loved the whine on the S when I went in one.
They can be taken to around 200bhp fairly cheaply as well the last time I looked.
Of course though, an Orion is a better car according to MK1 Orion Boy.

I'm currently driving a Cooper, and it's such a laugh to drive.
Silly chuckable too - just so much front end grip! Lacking in power, but keep it on the boil and it's very pacey cross country.
Very good car, and classless too. Looks at home outside an estate agent, or being valet parked at the Ritz

I have, great cars , Standard ones are 'ok', but a modified one is better, mines has 256 bhp . Its never going to beat a cossy in a straight line, but around a twisty track, its another story

PassionFord Post Whore!!
My Ex has one... nice cars...
I am in the market for something similar- Been to a few dealers today.
Gonna go for the clio 182 (not cup) but with the cup suspension kit add on.
QUick cars and all the reviews and info I have managed to get says their good.
The Cooper is just too expensive and not quite as quick and a little less roomy... but is better built than the 182.
The 206 GTI 180 has awesome seats standard but I couldn't get as good a driving position as the 182- and they're not supposed to be as good handling and in general.
I'd only have a mini to piss the ex off.

172 cup doesn't have ABS.
182, 172 and the 182 cup and 182 with cup suspension all have ABS.
BUT
Yep- awesome car.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I went out in a ONE a few weeks back and loved it, it wasn't "that" quick but it was a lovely car all the same and had a bit of poke.
Have a look at the lupo gti though, they are extremaly good!

I quite like the cooper s but i feel its a little girly for example all the poofs round here drive them and young chicks new to the road
Bet there fun when there tuned up a little around the 220bhp mark?
For me though i would go for a Integra DC5 TYPE R fookin awesome car thats never gone a let you down piles of fun and amazing lookin/with plenty of tuning potential too
Truly great all round package for less money than a cooper s just more to insure(jap import grp 20)
Owned a couple of hondas 1 was a little run about civic coupe 1.5sohc(v-tec)
135k on the clock im not lying it got murdered for 14months never ever let me down?
6000rpm every time it was driven surprisingly nippy for engine size?
You could eat your dinner off the engine bay it looked brand new no oil or nowt?
3 of my friends own Type r's (civics) and to be honest i personally could not tell you another car for less than 8k as reliable and boy do they give them cars death 8750rpm red line bouncing everytime there driven in every gear??
one has had his 3 years and all they need is good oil and thats it truthfully!
As you can see im quite a Type r fan you get a lot for your money with no turbo
Something i might consider alongside my 3dr which ill keep forever when bought
